Mamba XL or HV160
I'm debating. I put the Mamba XL I had in my cybermaxx (1521 on 8s:yes:) and need to buy a new ESC for my 5b.
I'm running a RX pack and mechanical brakes just because. I rarely use reverse. (leftover driving habit from nitro days) Do I go with the HV160 and have the ability to run up to 12s or just go with the XL as it has car specific software. I can get an HV160 and a pistix for about $50 less than an XL. Anyone? |
Mamba XL.
Just because I like the 8AWG wires. :mdr: |
Id say hv160 just because you can run 12s (insane).upgraded brakes work fine on a Baja and reverse is for wussies!
|
What motor do you have in your Baja? If it can handle 12s then that's the way to go.
Also, do you need to program it in any particular way to get it to work with a car, or is it just plug n play? |
The CC 2028. It's only rated to 8s. I want to push it. (obviously voiding warranty)
Other than adding a pistix to the HV160 it is plug and play. |

(My next large scale will eventually run the Mamba XL - but last summer it wasn't available - and I didn't want to wait) |

I have both the XL and a Phoenix ICE HV. I spend lots of time driving both.
I would give up 12S and live with the XL in a heartbeat. Why? XL has proportional brakes (eliminates brake servo, disc hardware, and gives software adjustments) XL has internal BEC (perfect for a single servo RC, no CC BEC or receiver batt and simplifies wiring) XL has better software as far as current limiting, brake & throttle curves, BEC voltage, punch control, ect XL has integrated fan, though I have copied closely on my ICE XL has mounting options OTHER than servo tape/ Velcro |

1. ESC braking and reverse are obviously a major draw on the XL. 2. But with all the XL failures - I think most would now run an external BEC on a large scale vehicle. 3. Agreed - but I've had no complaints about the drivability of the HV160 in my truck - of course, I'm the type who doesn't change many settings on my MMM's. 4. I've never seen temps high enough on my HV160 (even in summer) to worry about a fan. 5. I have my HV160 mounted through the screw holes on its case. |
How about the Hydra ICE HV
|
All good food for thought guys, thanks! Any more thoughts/suggestions?

Go for the 12S - they are all toys so go for it and play hard!!!

I'm going to run mechanical brakes I'm going to run a rx pack I never use the castle link I plug and bash I'm replacing the fan on my XL with a clear one so the XL fan can be used Maybe you have an older HV or less than a 160? They currently share the same case as the HV160 I've decided to go HV160!! I'll then have one of each. |
Way to go dude. I have a 2 speed dragster project (very early stages and long term project) and I have been looking at possibly using a HV160 or similar but I can't afford one at the moment. By the time I get the funds and am ready for an ESC I am hoping there are more options and maybe higher HV too. I will need funds for batteries too!!! I have 6s in my Savage and sort of think I should have bought one of Lutachs 10s ESC's instead of the 6s.
How about this Neu motor? 4440 1Y 63KV 12KRPM 15000 watts 30000 watts(peak) 200 volts Just need to find an ESC for it and gear it to the moon. Going to need at least a restricted electrical licence too!!!(in Australia anyway) |
