A word to the wise

Ive been using 3.5mm plugs and tubes for my cell connections for a couple of years now and never had any trouble until last week.

Now, normally when the speedo is installed in the truck there is no way it can be connected up backwards (reverse polarity) right? as the wires are too short.
but when you remove the speedo and have it flipped upside down in your hand to inspect the underside, there is a real chance that the two power wires will flop down and touch the tubes on the end of the cells. :035:
If your dumb enough to leave them in the truck that is................

what happens next??
Flash , smoke , and the whiff of dead electronics.:036: ........followed by hoots of laughter from your Nitro burning mates, and a big pair of donkey ears for you to wear.............

So if you plan on removing your speedo from the truck , just make sure those cell packs are as far away as possible.........:027: :028:

If you like the single plugs. I would suggest the power pole connectors. The have the plastic around them so won't short out. That is just a suggestion though. I used to use deans. I tried the power poles out and love them. I swapped over to all power pole connecions now.

please, don't got there again darren.

Here is a little story for you as well;

I had my mamba hooked up to my batteries with a solder connection, because i was waiting for plugs.. So i unsoldered them to charge them up.. Hooped up the charger, and i noticed the voltage of the charger peaking to 55V.. Smoke.. End of life Mamba,,

I called Castle, told them the story, and they gave me another Mamba, for 25 bucks, including the shipping to the netherlands.

I used to use power poles on my brushed stuff, when I got the 18.98, I took Mr Shultze advice and went over to tubes, after some smoked controllers were blamed on poor quality connections........you might remember:010:

I was thinking maybe to use Deans, and use both tabs for the one wire, still have the wiring as you would if you were using a tube or single power pole. Would this raise the amperage they could take?

coolhandcountry 04.29.2006 06:56 PM

I may have missed that one cab king.
I have heard schulze tries to blame everything on loose connections.
You could used the deans but you would have the same problem with the loose bare connectors. Unless you put the male on the batts which would be a bad thing in the making.
