This bites....
So i ordered some turnigy packs a while back and they have been sitting waiting untill i got my MMM back from Castle. Well it showed up today so i went ahead and soldered on my connectors on both the MMM and my new 5s turnigy packs. I plug a battery in and go ahead and try to calibrate my new esc. It beeped and flashed whatnot and i tried to calibrate and then it just shut off. I unplugged the batt and tried again, nothing. So i unplugged the batt and hooked to a voltmeter....no voltage. GAY! It seems the negative wire has a bad solder joint on the board it is soldered to, if i press on it it reads voltage, if i let go it reads nothing. I checked the voltave at the main leads and each cell when i got them and they were all perfect. Im pretty sure the waranty on these is 30 days, and im pretty sure its been over a month since i got them. Do you think they would replace it anyway since they are still new and never used?

there are a few crappy solder joints inside, just reflow all of the internal joints and you will be good 2 go... |
Carefully remove heat shrink and tape etc, and resolder. Your LHS should have heat shrink to replace it, if not it's readily availible at CrapsAmps and it's inexpensive. It's better to try to repair yourself than deal with the language barrier, company loopholes and the cost of shipping it back.

ok ill give it a try. Ill just go over to MA and get some shrink, good excuse to go check out the garage!

wow, what a fuggin joke! I called MA to see if i could come pick up some shrink wrap and they said they only deal over the phone or online and that I could not just come by to buy the stuff. I explained i was only 10 minutes away and that i really would like it now and he just flat out said NO. WTF? I know of people that drove up there and bought batteries before.

can you not order it online then go collect it

Take the Turnigy pack with you and ask if they'll repair it for you. Bring a pocket camcorder, Post that shizz up for the forum to see. |
Go to Harbor Freight. They have really good heat shrink tubing and cheap.
Remember they (Turnigy) have a USA warehouse now. But would try a repair my self. But you will need a really good solder gun, like the Weller 260 watt. Big wire require big heat. To little and can risk major battery problems by overheating the battery. |
I tried harbor freight before and they only had the rubber heat shrink for wires and stuff. I did pick up some from the LHS. I bought a foot of it and i set it on the passenger seat and looked over at it 30 seconds later and it was all curled up from the sun! I had to turn around and go buy more, this time i put it in the glove box
Oh and........whoever reads this from MA....FU! |

Sorry to hear of your bad luck with the pack. Not at all surprized about your experience with MA. The perfect example of their superb business practices. Customer service is job one, right? |
This is the stuff I like from Harbor:
http://www.harborfreight.com/8mm-x-5...ing-98066.html They offer a boxed set that is not on the website of the three sizes they do show on the website. It is great stuff. Note the 2 to 1 shrink rate. Find I have uses for all three size working with battery leads and connectors. Have not used the little package of the different ones they list. |
