Ofna Spider Diffs
can you make an ofna spider diff from these two part sets
http://cgi.ebay.com/Hyper-9-Spider-D...item336798fc55 http://cgi.ebay.com/Hyper-9-Spider-D...item3f041bd89e totalling $20 along with using the rest of the parts from stock ofma diffs or are there still aprts u will need and have to buy the whole $70 spider diff? Want to try them front and rear in my muggy with my slipperential in the center. |
You would obviously need the ring & pinion gears, some shims & bearings & o-rings the correct size, and the output shafts/cups but I cant see any other specific parts missing really. You can probably look up the required other parts, though you can buy complete 6 spider diffs for about ~$35-30 each:

So all hyper 7 diffs are 6 gear spider diffs?
|
Are the size of the diffs for hyper 7 and 9 same?
|
I'm pretty sure Hyper 9 diffs are much slimmer than the standard Ofna K-type diffs used on Hyper 7/8/8.5 (This is why the Slipperential doesn't fit in the Hyper 9 center diff bulk, and the Slipperential is already slimmer than Ofna diffs)
The 8 spider diffs that are the larger size have a 2-piece alloy diff cup and 6 screws securing the spur. Any other diffs with plastic case and 4 screws securing the spur are regular 6 spider. |
These are the best diffs around IMO, I have 3 of them in my hyper8,5 Pro, and 3 in my hyper ST Pro. No more breaking diffs with castle power.

Would these diffs fit into a LST2 differential case? (the ofna 8 spider diffs)
(aside from the aluminum case in one, are the diffs the same?) http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...r-Differential http://cgi.ebay.com/OFNA-HOBAO-Hyper...item2a10c86789 |
As was just stated, the Hyper 9 diffs are smaller/slimmer than the other ofna diffs so they arent compatible as such.
The LST2 diffs and Hyper 8 diffs should be interchangeable though, since both types can be used in FLM hybrid bulks and UE Ultralite cases- they are different ratios though so you must choose one or the other, not able to mix parts as such. |
