mamba monster swolen capacitor

dear castle;

I was driving my flm savage yesterday and at some moment it started cogging so i checked the battery voltage's and they where 3.76volt per cell
so i tryed again but it didn't want to move anymore when i use only one battery (2 cells) it works great but with two packs (4cells) again it does nothing.
But after opening up the case i saw this this can't be good what should i do.

the setup i'm running is:
mamba monster (ofcourse)
the 2650kv motor from castle (the one that came with the esc)
and 2x 2cells lipo's 5400mAh (in series so it becomes one 4cells)

already thanks

What brand are those lipos, and the C rating?

Swollen cap is usually a sign of ripple current caused by poor batts or maybe overheating- you could in theory replace the cap but it would be better to return the whole esc for testing & servicing- there is a form on the support page to fill out with return details:

Couple of things...

25C battery... we suggest a 35C battery (remember, cars like ERevos and Savages draw around 300-400A during acceleration -- The higher the C rating, the better the batteries will handle it.)

Connectors -- THOSE little bitty connectors you have on there are going to kill things. Too much electrical resistance = BAD. I don't even know how you soldered the 10ga wires on those connectors. If you continue to use little connectors, you will continue to have problems. We suggest the Castle 6.5MM connector for Monster setups.

Long battery wires = BAD. Keep 'em short!

i understand those connectors are bad but 25C on a 5400mAh battery is good i think
better 25C on a 5400mAh battery than 40C on a 2200mAh one

That's true -- 25C on a 5400mah battery IS better than 40C on a 2200mah battery -- but I personally wouldn't recommend either of those batteries with a Mamba Monster.

All of these things add up to make it hard on the ESC, and especially on the capacitors.. The capacitors are there to keep the voltage at the ESC as smooth as possible. If you use connectors that are too small, and batteries that are too low C rating, the results are damaged capacitors.

Thanx!

Patrick

yes, and better yet a 40c 5000.

Well, we can get it fixed up for you -- I wouldn't try repairing it yourself.

Contact tech support @ castle and see what they can do for you.

Thanx!

Patrick
