Tanks/tracked vehicles and the likes.

There are a couple of RC tanks out there that I'd really like to get ahold of, but I would want a 1/8 or 1/10 size atleast. Is it possible to get a tank with some metal at a decent price (under 800$)? Or any other tracked vehicles in the 1/8 class?

http://www.mark-1-tank.co.uk/index.html has 1/8 tanks but IMO 2000$ for a chassis is far too expensive. (I would like a 1/8, I don't absolutely desire one. BTW you should check out the 1/4 tanks at the link if you haven't seen em already. Pretty cool.) More info on the large scale tanks here http://www.gizmology.net/tanks.htm (Lots of links at the bottom of the page.)

I'd be satisfied with a plastic chassis (As long as the exposed parts are made of something slightly durable.) as long as it's 1/8 and under 800$, preferably around 250-400$

Tamiya do a line of tanks I'm fairly sure, though I dont know what scales they are- they do seem to be pretty pricey though due to the complex drivetrains and mechanisms + detail in the molding etc etc.

They are 1/16 scale and cost around 700-1000$. There are a couple of other companies that also sell 1/16 Tanks with the same amount of metal hop ups (I think.), but I think the cost lies somewhere else in the Tamiya Tank. Probably in all the internal details/details in the molding as you said.

yes the tanks seem expensive
i have seen some very large rc ones and they look so much fun

i have always wanted to build one of these

vityaz crawler cummins v10 multifuel
floats swims crawls goes right over a 20ft ditch
rear is driven and can lift front rear and pivot steer as well as track steer
super wide tracks and a variety of units for the rear section

i think it would be great built from two kyosho blizzards
and i have been thinking of getting two cheap heng long 1/16 tanks to try some ideas with first
to work out how to get the lift and pivot steer happening

A 10th or 8th scale tank all metal will cost thousands. They are out there though. rcuniverse has what is probably the most active tank forum.

All of tamiya's tanks are either 16th scale or 35th scale. An 8th scale tank would be huge and weigh a ton. An 8th scale M1A2 would be 4 feet long with the gun and 1.5 feet wide. 10th scale it would be 3.25 feet long and 1.2 feet wide.

You can pick up 16th scale chinese made tanks for around 150-200 with metal tracks, smoke, and sound all RTR.

www.matomart.com is probably the best for them. A Tamiya will cost close to 1k once fully built.

The chinese models have a ton of upgrades available for them including full metal kits and battle system upgrades.
