kyosho mfr electric conversion
hello.
since 2008 i want to try this conversion and now finally i start it!! i got a good ebay deal for one and there it is: http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/9448/sam5998.jpg rtr just arrived!! http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/4342/sam6001.jpg details of chassis. http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/1599/sam6006.jpg roller an already with the gearbox changed to adapt brushless motor! http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7816/sam6009.jpg a small ideia as i want to mount electronics on the chassis! i will use a 3s lipo setup with a 3270kv 4pole leopard motor with a ezrun sc8 esc. 4 pole for more power and less heat and only 3s because the weight of this car that is less of 3 kilos roller and will be less of 4 kilos ready to run. greetings |
Looks like an interesting project and should be fun to drive. One thing that bothers me about the MFR is the drive shafts (not so much the center ones). I have seen a few people come back to the shop with buckled shafts and that was in nitro form. Brushless might be a lot harder on them. Rest of the truck seems decent.
Anyway keep the pics coming. We all love conversion threads here. |
I am looking forward to see this completed, I've always wondered about the MFR.

cool looking truck
the ends and shocks look LST ish almost sc8 esc will be good in there i had one in a 5 kg savage no problem |
thankīs to all answers!
i had many electric cars since 2006 but i feel this is my true first conversion and after run 3 full packs today on the car i am really loving this project. the mfr is freaking fast and have tons of torque! jumps very well and balanced and steering is great too!! more pics: http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/4208/sam6010h.jpg stock nitro mfr body for now. http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/6275/sam6011r.jpg i am using t-maxx wheels for bashing on dirt because they have good traction! http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8149/sam6013.jpg it stands high and with good ground clearance. http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/6442/sam6016.jpg http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/9166/sam6014.jpg http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/2807/sam6019.jpg weight loaded even with more heavy monster wheels is 8.10 pounds that is 3.6 kilos. the ezrun esc works very well on this motor even on 3s and on the end of 20 minutes of each pack motor measure 55 degrees celsius and esc and lipo more cold that motor. i am really happy with this conversion and this mfr really is a great fun and agile truck to drive. about dogbones or drive shafts i have already notice that they are the weak part on thsi truck but i will buy optional universals all around if they tend to break or bend! motor mount is a home made l plate and for now is working without any issue. more too come because projects are works always in progress!! greetings |
NICE! Thats a great car now, and I don't think many people have a brushless MFR!

new updates!
since i was notice some wear on transmission dog bones e think on continue the project and mount a center diff too. i notice that it could be easy since chassis plate is flat and i get my hands to work. i have already in stock for many time a center diff brushless motor mount from a rc8 so i get the rest of the parts to mount it. next i made a custom plate to attach to center diff and to chassis staying between both and thatīs it!! http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/183/sam6209.jpg the easiet part was made center dog bones with correct leght and for that i use two spare ones from front and cut them and glue them with a special epoxy glue. this dog bones are not round and top pins come out after heat so it was easy to customize them!! http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/8104/sam6217.jpg i bought a new lipo box too from a hyper 10sc truck and fit just perfect and change all stock screws to hex head ones! also get optional 17 mm's hex hubs and change motor to a 4065 2700kv 4 pole from stock ezrun sc8 combo! http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9457/sam6213.jpg http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/7420/sam6210.jpg new body is on project too and all i can say is that tha handling of the truck is now a dream. is corners like a 1/8 truggy with 4 wheels planted on the ground but at same time i can bash it anywhere like a monster!! weight come to 3,45 kilos with this changes and with truggy 1/8 wheels so yeah it is dawn light and super fast on 3s lipo! more to come soon! |
Nice conversion! CD and all, I also like your choice of electronics:yipi:

i choose hobbywing sc8 because this is really a great combo for the price and buy this or mamba or tekin here in portugal guarantee is the same!! none!!! soo more cheaper the combo more money in pocket!! greetings |
Well done. I wasn't all that happy with your first motor mount as it looked very thin but the new setup looks excellent. Even a center diff too. Wow! Weight is excellent too. I hope it serves you well and keep us updated on the durability of the truck.

so far car is running great either bashing or racing on track and dogbones are handling great.
only blow a rear shock on a local race but since they are plastic itīs normal. this is a cheap conversion if you get a cheap mfr to buy and it is a blast to drive even on 3s lipo. imagine with a 4s setup.... my friends with e-revos and savyīs fluxs usually break on a dirt bike track were we usually bash and my mfr as ending days without a issue!! so my concern with weight is giving results!! greetings to all |
new updates to the project.
since i really didnīt like having center dogbones over the chassis plate i get a e-maxx transmission for the car instead the previous center diff. http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/6385/imag0012o.jpg with e-maxx tranny i got the chance of changing center dogbones for passing under the chassis and the change results on a whole new truck... http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3349/imag0015af.jpg with this tranny i have a superb brushless motor mount and i can run it with or without center diff depending where i want to run!! i have to dremmel a bit the chassis and made 4 holes for the tranny and thatīs it!! and with center dogbones passing under the chassis i got a huge space over the chassis for putting electronics different! http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/7239/imag0010fm.jpg now i only have to make a custom tranny skid or protection and it is ready for more many hours of fun!! http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/6021/imag0007acn.jpg i have not weight the car again after this change but it seems very light again and it runs neutral and with awesome handling!! another thing i notice is when i desacelarate the car still rolls or still run alot better than earlier with center diff, that means that have less transmission stress between gears or anything similar to that. it feels much more trigger sensitive too! hope you guyīs enjoy because after 15 cars i had this one is by far my favorite and as been surprised me alot!! |
What is the specs on that golden leopard motor? What voltage do you run with it?
