My Savage conversion

Well I started this project about 3 months before HPI came out with the Flux. I have stuck with it and made a few changes along the way but it is actually running although not quite finished yet. The link is to photobucket, my computer is very slow dealing with it so 1 link to all photos.

While it started with me modifying the std XSS chassis, I ended up buying std flux chassis to make it easier to mount battery boxes.
I also got bullet proof front and rear ends off Linc with GH diff housings and Integy rear tie rod eliminator hubs - that meant another rebuild before I even got it going.
Short specs - Neu 1515 2Y (was going to go 10S or 12S), Lutach 6S ESC, Dimension Engineering BEC, ACE digital servo's, 2x 3S Polyquest 4500mah batts, EC5 connectors, std 2 speed with mech brakes.

I have plastic spur to go on, sway bars to fit, steering bearings to go in, sort out gearing - I don't know what the current gearing is apart from stock metal spur and a pinion I need to count the teeth on. Not real fast at the moment with the 2Y(1100kv) but I also have a Medusa 70mm (1600kv I think) that I might throw on.

The rest of it is stock XSS kit. I like the building part of the project which is why I got the kit to mod and did not go the Flux when it came out.

I should have got the 10S ESC from Lutach too. While I now know 6S is really my upper limit for the Savage, my 2Y motor and 10S would go nicely on a 2 speed dragster project waiting in the wings.

Thanks to Lutach and Linc for help with great value parts along the way

Thats all for now.

Looks good. Im with you on building the truck rather than rtr, even if it does cost more

Have you run the truck much? hows the 2speed holding up on 6s?

I have only run it twice. I do not know if the 2 speed is setup right as I can't tell when or if it changes gear. Top speed with current gearing and the 2Y motor is probably only about 25-30mph with wheelies at the first blip on the throttle. Actually takes quite a bit of care to get it moving without wheelies.

I had a savage set up with the 3 speed.
It was a pain to get adjusted but was awesome when done.
Problem I had was when shifted it would wheelie.
I put reverse in mine as well and found that was a weak link in transmission.
Any more updates?

No more updates yet. Between kids and work I have not had much time to do anything with the cars. The next thing is to fit the plastic spur and come up with a new/changed wheelie bar setup to keep the nose down a bit.

On a side not I am starting to put a rig together to turn down a 1521 Neu 8mm shaft to 5mm using unused savage mounts, a cheap ESC and a servo tester all mounted on a board then using my rotary tool. A bit like a lathe setup - this is taking up what little time I have at the moment and that motor is for another long term project although I might throw it in the savage for a laugh session.
