Team Novak introduce the Diablo dual battery brushless system for dual-battery monster trucks such as the Traxxas E-Maxx or HPI Savage. The 550-size motor and speed controller are designed from the ground up to run from two 2S or 6-cell NiMH batteries as normally found in 1/10 scale vehicles. The controller features Novak's own Bash Boost technology that increase the performance of the motor by advancing the timing at a certain RPM and throttle position. The sensored 550-size motor sports a 5mm shaft and a one-piece, multi-pole sintered Neodymium magnet. Motor and controller come pre-wired with genuine Traxxas high-performance connectors with the Diablo controller also being waterproof for added security and bash-ability. The system will become available in January 2012.

Features
- Designed specifically for dual-battery pack vehicles
- Sensor-based system ty
- Plug-and-Play: Factory-wired with genuine Traxxas battery plugs & gold-plated Bullet motor plugs
- 3 Throttle Modes: Default, Standard, and a Limited Mode
- Novak-developed Bash Boost for an extra burst of power at full throttle
- Novak X-Drive provides enhanced throttle response, ultra smooth power delivery, higher top speeds,
and cooler operating temperatures
- Novak’s Launch Limit to minimize battery pack heating and damage, and to maximize run time
- Water-resistant case with protective silicone gasketed seal to help keep out the elements
- Smart-Stop Dual LiPo Cut-Off Circuitry independently monitors both battery packs
- Robust 3-amp BEC for strong and fast steering response under any condition
- Thermal Overload Protection circuitry to protect the Diablo ESC and motor from overheating
- Built-in diagnostic temperature monitoring that lets you quickly check the ESC's temperature at any time
- User-replaceable input harness
- Rebuildable motor based on Novak’s proven Ballistic 550
So, in summary:

1) re-released/ re-worked HVPro?
2) with a water-resistant case
3) launch limit = punch control ( :intello: )?
4) built in pair of 2s smartstop LVCs; nice, but are they adjustable and/or has the voltage threshold been increased from the too-low 3.125v per cell it used to be?
5) same automatic timing advance as before, now called Bash-boost?
6) led display to show esc temps?
7) default, standard & limited throttle modes = ???

What happened with the new esc to go with the Ballistic 8 motors? Nice to see an updated HVPro esc but it doesn't really bring anything new to the table, compared to what's currently available ( water-resistant is great, if it can actually withstand being driven through a puddle repeatedly or submerged in a stream or pond for a minute, which is what a lot of guys wanting waterproof escs are really after in terms of survivability )...

I see a few issues:

As mentioned by the illustious Neil the lvc needs to have an adjustable value. Personally think 3.0, 3.2, and 3.4 are the best values.

3amp bec is just not enough. 5amp would be better. And at least let us choose 5 or 6 volts, or make it completely adjustable like the ccbec.

The case and heatsink just do not look big enough to handle the heat... Nothing against small escs, but bigger heatsinks are always a good thing with air cooled electronics. Looks like they have a fan mount built in, but I would still prefer more surface area over the "failure prone" fans...

And can we get some sensored outrunners please!

Word is that the 1/8 ESC's will be available next year.

I have forwarded these questions and observations to Bob and Charlie.

We have many earlier HV esc customers who want to send their old HVs in for exchange through our Exchange/Upgrade programs. Up to now, we haven't had a comparable esc for these customers.

We are installing the Traxxas battery plug; mostly geared for E-maxx customers and other dual batt vehicles.

Yes it will. The casing mold work has started and should be done in about six weeks. We have been doing a lot of Beta testing and everything is going well.

I understand that some of you will have different ideas about why we should offer to our customers and we do appreciate this. The Diablo is a product that we designed to meet the demands that we have received by many of our customers that were asking for a replacement for our original HV and HV pros. The wanted a simple drop in replacement which we have done. If somebody else wants a more sophisticated ESC for this application we will have the 1/8 scale ESC the first quarter of next year.

What will the KV/RPM of said motor be???

josh9mille 12.18.2011 03:56 AM

So this is a 1/8th system made for dual batteries but only up to 4s total? Sounds lame. Or am I missing something?

It is just an updated version of the old Novak HV system. And it is for 10th scale.

"Novak’s Diablo brushless system was designed from the ground up to run from any dual 2S LiPo or dual 6-cell NiMH battery packs intended for full-sized 10th scale vehicles. Not only is the system a perfect fit for the Traxxas® E-Maxx™, HPI® E-Savage™ and other dual pack monster trucks, but it is ultra simple to operate, and packed full of cutting-edge features. All this at an unbelievable price point! "

The Diablo system is an update to the HvMaxx / HVPro- same motors & kv ratings as the current 550 Ballistic motors.

The actual new 1/8 scale system will only be upto 4s lipo capable ( ROAR compliant I'm guessing = sucks balls ), but has 2 motor options:

Ballistic 8 1.5 Y = 1950kv
Ballistic 8 2D = 2650kv

Truggy & buggy options respectively.
