EMaxx Questions/help...
Hi all I have quite a number of questions to put to you intellectuals  all involving an Emaxx.
I know there have been many custom maxxes built and they have inspired me to try and make my own so the basic outline I had in mind was: FLM Chassis... And thats it  This is where I need your help because I am on a tight budget so need to get this mostly right first time. I need help choosing diffs I don't mind spending money on quality as long as it works and lasts... If I buy FLM Hybrid bulks I would need 1/8th scale diffs, right? but then to run standard traxxas drive shafts I would need to modify them? Could I run them un-modified with CVD's? If I bought FLM combo bulks would I be restricted to standard diffs? Is this an issue? Thats the main ones for now but I'm sure more will be thrown up as I'm new to maxxes, any help would be appreciated, thanks |
If you got the FLM HYBRID "combo" bulks you are not restricted to the stock diffs. You can use 1/8 diffs. You can check out my build for ideas.
|
I thought the "combo" bulks and "hybrids" were different things all together? Thats what it looks like on the FLM website? Maybe I'm just confused
If I go 1/8th scale diffs I'm reluctant to spend major £££ so what would be cheap-ish? Is it Hyper 8 diffs most use? |
Combo bulk use stock diffs.
Hybird bulk use 1/8 buggy diffs. Mike has the shafts to install in the 1/8 buggy diffs to use stock shafts. |

If I just bought buggy diffs and CVD's would I not need to buy that little shaft or modify them? |
The cvds will slide in the buggy cups.
No mods required there. The center needs dog bones though. |
So if I bought to of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hyper-7-8-...#ht_500wt_1202
And some CVD's they would just drop straight into the Hybrid bulks? Also I found some Proline powerstrokes for $155 and the bypass' are new is this a good deal? I know they're some of the best out there and I love their look |
That does look like the ones you need.
|
Did I read somewhere I have to change the crown gear to make it fit or was that something else completely?
Do you think the shocks are a good deal? |
I thought that was only on the newer 9 model.
Could be wrong though. |
I guess I'll just have to buy them and find out then!
What CVD's would anyone recommend Losi xxl's? Do they need a modification? |
You don't have to change the crown gear.
|
Yup, crown-gear change is/was only required if you could only get hold of the truggy diffs with spiral cut teeth, the buggy diffs use straight-cut teeth which is what you linked to.
Don't forget your shims: clicky :intello: |
Ok thanks guys
Any recommendations on CVD's? |
I'd say either the traxxas or MIP cvds should be fine, though there is always the option of running LST XXL cvds if you don't mind a tiny bit of modding work:
http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...=1#post4633281 http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...=1#post4864749 There are a few ways to make 'em fit depending on which knuckles/bearing carriers you go with, but they are the beefiest option pretty much. |
