More info on this please
I guess people missed this, but here you go:

TeamNovak's (long-awaited...) Activ8!
|
So the ESC will be only capable of 4S lipo max. or will there be an HV one available for at least 6S for non racer who uses 6S lipos?
|
NovakTwo,
Have your web guy change the wording a bit here (bold letters): MOTOR COMPATIBILITY The Activ8 Racing Brushless ESC was primarily designed for use with Novak’s Ballistic 8 Racing Brushless Motors, but is also compatible with Novak’s Ballistic 550 Racing Brushless Motors, and all popular 1/8th-scale (15XX-size), 550-size, and 540-size, 2 or 4-pole, sensored brushless motors. If the ESC works without the sensor wire, I guess that's fine, but from what I can tell it doesn't. |

The text is vague. It does end with clarifying "sensored brushless motors" but there are so many commas in that sentence that it could be easily misunderstood. |
Sentence states basically all sensored 2-4 pole motors ranging from 1/10 to 1/8 scale motors.
Bummer that it won't do sensorless. Hopefully they will one day, just like how they finally came around doing Delta wound stators with their Ballistic 8. |

The text is a bit vague right and knowing how many RCers out there lack a bit of common sense, it would be something Novak should address as most popular 15XX size motors are sensorless. |
The Activ8 is sensored-only; I'll see if we can clarify the copy a bit. Our Ballistic 8 motor can be operated with sensor-less controllers---we have considered a SL-only version of the motor.
As for additional lipo, yes it can--it does have the headroom. But, for now, we are just spec-ing it for 2S to 4S. Bob has run certain motor configurations with additional cells and it works fine---but, we don't want all the warranty liability.... We will be doing an exploded view of the Activ8; we designed a cushioning internal silicon insert that surrounds the boards on all sides featuring a ledge around the tub bottom that the PCB rests on. There is another silicon piece---these are in addition to our existing seal---so this controller is the most sealed and watertight esc we have made. |
