8T-E Rebuild. (Pik heavy)
Hey guys!Don't know about most of you, but this season has really been terrible for me... Injured my wrist snowboarding -so that ended the season prematurely and generally the cold months get you down So it took out my 8t today regardless of the cool damp weather to blow off some steam..

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...DSC_0041-1.jpg So.... I might have made a mess of my rig.. It was a little more fun running through the puddles/mud/grass then it was tearing it down and starting to clean it. It could have been worse had my rear differential not started to go out on me. Didnt call it a day untill my truggy was FWD. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...DSC_0042-1.jpg My poor differnetial*Hint* thats not dust...Aluminum powder anyone? http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...DSC_0045-1.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...DSC_0046-1.jpg Rear differential aside, I continued with the tear down. The quick bath I gave it already started to show surface rust on all the a braised parts. I replaced what I could with what was on hard and cleaned up the others. I have about 3 hours into cleaning this guy, and its no wear near done. I've been slacking on my maintenance and it shows! 2 rear bearings were gritty, so replaced them with some Goodie-bag bearings from Mr. Lambert. Shocks need a complete rebuild + oil, they were all missing about 7mm worth! explains my lack of dampening... The front differential case is also a little warped? I think that might be from the front wheels always unloading, looks melted .. I did a silicon/sily puddy mix in the CD to try and simulate a LSD (limited slip diff, not the drug) My nitride coating on all my shafts is unevenly warn, so debating to replace those, or if some rubber booties and some shock covers will be ok? Ill get some more pictures up tomorrow once I get some more work done. |
Nice to see someone else rolling the origional 8T, I have one going brushless eventually
|
I have offset wheels, so the shorter WB isnt much of an issue for me.. PLus i dont have the cash laying around to upgrade, not that i would need too tho.
|
Looks like you had fun! I need to tear down my MBX5T for its yearly service...although I only used it a hand-full of times last yr so maybe I can wait. I usually go through all my rigs over the winter top to bottom so they are ready for spring...besides, it gets me away from the wife
|
Yea canadian winters are prettyharsh on the rigs. Heavy salting during the colder months mean a full clean each spring. I dont mind though, once you get to know your rig, maintenence dosent take too lonh.

Yeah, I did the zero offset mod so I could run the Proline VTR tires. I love how much more responsive they are because of the lower profiles. But they are only offered in zero offset, hence why i converted. I wish the hub adapters were about 5mm instead of 15mm. I only needed a little to clear the rim spokes. I could just clearance the wheels if I wanted to run them without the adapters, it would look funny but I bet it would steer alot more like a buggy does with the narrow track.
I ran my truggy last week. Ugh, it was fun till I had to clean it up. Goose poop has a smell all its own. After cleaning that I'm never going out in spring again. Its track time for me ONLY. |
Tell me about the clean up! Thank god i didnt run through any shit! That would not have been fun to clean up. Im hoping to get some track time in during the next couple months.

Well, Got my esc's in today and couldn't think of an excuse not to run the Losi. First pack went through great, no heat loads of run time and tire balding speed runs. Second pack not so good. Let my buddy drive while i took his atv for a little boot. In the 4 minutes I was gone he managed to crash.. Was it ever a crash!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...7/DSC_0075.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...7/DSC_0076.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...7/DSC_0077.jpg Fortunately the lipo did not burst, that would have been horrible. All my electronics managed to make it out rather fine. But the remained of the car not so. -The lipo is gone, clipped the leads and tossed it -The DE Racing front bumper is kaputz -The front shock tower ripped itself from the diff -The radio tray snapped the 3 pillars that mounted it to the chassis -The motor mount is bent -The pinion is unusable -The battery tray has no front Battery stops.. So the damage is around the 150$ mark, looking around for the best deals to save my buddy some coin. Fortunately he took all responsibility and is replacing everything that broke. Some other points of intrest from the crash tho, is that the diff/motor mount has the ANNO'd STEEL screws broken in it, and a couple bearings have literally disintegrated. The battery leads de soldered themselves! and the motor wire came out of the bullet conector. It was definitely a fast crash! Im just thankfull that my beloved 1518 is not harmed. Sucks tho, hobbyparts no longer offers the 25c 5k 5s pack, and the 30c one is 90 bucks... maybe ill have better luck with the gens ace? |
Well that sucks for sure. At least your friend has offered up to pay damages...can't tell you how many others would not do that.
|
Well i go by the rule, you break it you buy it.
