Castle motor for 1/8th truggy
 

So right now i have a Neu-Castle 1512 1.5y 1800kv motor that i bought on impulse that i thought i would be able to use in my Mugen MBX5t, but come to find out it's going to be a little small and possibly get a little hot.

So ultimately i would like to get my hands on a 1518 or 1520 but i havent been able to come up with any really for sale. My question is how well is the 1515 2200kv motor going to preform on 5 or 6sin a 9.5lb truggy? I know a lot of people are using these now and could use a little direction.

I've may have already found a local buyer for my 1518 because im just trying to off it now and fund something else.

I had a 1515 in my mbx5t before I put the 1520 in it and it did fine. Now, I did have to pay more attention to gearing to keep temps in check for long runs.

I believe I used a 14-16T pinion and went from there

Runs fine in my 10.5lb Jammin X1 Truggy. Just a basic MMM 2200kv combo. On 3S2P or 6S1P the weight is 10.5lbs. On 4S its 9.8lbs.

Running 18/62 gearing because it has a huge spur gear. But since its happy with 18/62 I'm swapping over to the 48t buggy spur and dropping to a 14t pinion. It'll keep the ratio similar.

62/18 = 3.44:1
48/14 = 3.43:1

Almost identical gearing and it'll lower the center diff, straighten out the CVD angles, and since my ESC is mounted on a platform attached to the center diff the ESC will get lower too. Win/Win all around.

So far I've clocked it at 64mph, however it unloads the front tires extremely bad, even with the taped VTR rims on the car which balloon much less. I have 100k in the center diff and even with the unloading it wheelies all the time on 6S, its a chore to keep the nose down. Approaching max speeds. So I'm not sure how much power is being lose to the front wheels spinning. I may have to buy the parts for a center spool if I want to do speed runs and keep the front tires alive.

At the track its perfectly happy to run on 3S and 4S all day long. 3S lets me keep up with all of the nitro buggies, and use my twin 3S packs in parallel for 3S 10000mah.

Temps seem to stay in the under 120* for everything. The highest I've ever seen the ESC was on extended 6S speed run attempts and that was 142*, fan never kicked on. But I do have a MASSIVE cutout and the ESC is mounted directly in the airflow coming through the body.

I've got these same problems with a caster f8t. Haven't figure d out a way to a fix weights to the front of the truggy yet.
