backslash is driving like crap

Hey guys havent been doing much posting here.. darn college.

My buddy traded me his backslash a week or so ago and it came with the vxl3s system the velinion 3500 motor (I assume its this motor.. looks just like it)

I havent used any of my batts for probably 6 months to a year, but the last time I used them they were perfectly fine. Ive had 2 of these lipos for over 2 years with no real problems at all. (Thanks lincpimp!)

When I charge up the batts and everything they will take roughly 2-3000 mah -they are 4k and 5k packs- and hold the correct voltage, but when I pop them in this backslash they drive around for maybe 5 seconds then just die. ESC acts as if the LVC has been hit.

I turned off the LVC and used some 2100 3s packs and ended up puffing the lipo to death for who knows why.. it was driving slow but I knew it had more than 10 seconds of power.

Basically the ESC functions properly but every battery I test is horribly slow and the ESC never allows it to run for more than maybe 10 seconds.

All of these batts are old and I was thinking about getting some new ones just to see if it was the batts but does anyone else have a better idea?

NOTE: The ESC does not even recognize a nimh that is probaly 4 years old. The pack charges up, and when I do a tongue test it has power..

Ill get a vid up if needed.

Thanks everyone!

a tongue test? Get a voltmeter man!

It's the batteries. A good lipo will be at or near it's posted capacity (mah). The fact you aren't getting full capacity means they are bad.

A lipos life is either x number of cycles or 2-3 years of sitting.

Time for some batteries!

Hey, that's how I test 9v batteries. Do you know what 9Vdc taste like? Those vxl esc's are knowed to have a touchy Lvc and limp lipos can't help.

I think your esc is acting messed up not recognizing your tounge tested Nimh:). Buy a lva off of eBay for 4$ or from maxamps for 20. Then run it on nimh mode (red led) instead of lipo mode on the esc with the lva installed.

Lva=low volt alarm

Haha I have a decent Voltage meter but the 9v inside died on me so I had to kick it old school with my tongue test! Ive been in RC long enough to be able to accurately determine the voltage of a battery via tongue by +-7.2 volts =P

Ill buy a new pack and see if that helps.

Bruce- Ill look into the LVA, thanks for the advice!

Still confused why it wont turn on with the NIMH, but I wont worry about that too much for now.

Here is the battery I plan on ordering

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Lipo_Pack.html

What do you think? It is rated at "65c"

I could go with something like this to save some money if the 65c rating is not accurate

or

I didnt check the size specs on these batts because Im trying to get homework done and dont feel like spending time looking it up, but once you all tell me which pack is worth the cash flow Ill figure that out

thanks
