Why not bring another gmaxx to life?
Figured I would build up an old 3906 for fun. There is just something special about the old Maxx's that I think most people on this forum appreciate, including myself...even though there are lots of other cool new RC's out there these days, fixing up an old Maxx was just the most appealing option to me! Any comments or suggestions welcomed.
Here are some specs so far, I would love to find a monoblock for this truck! CC1515 motor MMpro esc HPI SF-5 servo Gorillamax G2 with G3 braces Great Assembly 7075 front and rear bulks Kershaw Designs center dogbones/drives Traxxas chrome 3905 CVD's Traxxas 3905 knuckles, tie rods, bearings Hardcore Racing titanium front and rear skids Hobby People front and rear bulkhead braces 17mm metal Hex's from a Savage All stock trans gears and diffs still! http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...pscd070466.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps6665eb05.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps57059a41.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...psc18a474a.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps2d06c4b0.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...psf85c7e10.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...psb3883234.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...pscbe4f237.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...psfa728b67.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...psdd8b732d.jpg |
Looks good so far! That line does still have a very sweet spot not only here but all through the rc community.
If that was my truck.. 1. Upgrade MMP to a larger esc due to sheer weight of the truck or at least use an external BEC 2. Find out for the owner of RCM, Mike if he is still making the hybrid bulks for this truck. It uses 1/8 gears and make a bomb proof diff set up. 3. Ditch the 8 shocks for 4. Stock shocks are not that good and will leak shortly. Find a bigger bore that will fit...much simpler 4. Mono block as you mentioned....they pop up from time to time on the UE site so check their often 5. AL towers for strength 6. AL carriers maybe Other than that it is purely cosmetic stuff and how much bling and $ you want to drop into it. |
Thanks magman, I am regretting selling my spare MMM now...but surprisingly the little MMpro is doing OK for now! Yes new shocks are close to the top of the list of things still needed as well.
Any suggestions on some decent shocks? I need to measure these stock ones, but I'll bet some 1/8 buggy fronts would work. It seems though, that since the shock goes through the a-arms that there is a limited selection of big bores to choose from, maybe I'm wrong? I'll get to researching, as I'm sure this has been addressed a million times already by now  |
That MMPro has got to go! Unless you are geared super low (35mph or less) that is too much load.
Ofna front buggy shocks are the most popular 4 shock upgrade. Traxxas "Big Bore" shocks work well, all 8 for about $65. My main concern would be diffs and tranny gears, that power will rip through them in no time. Thanks for sharing your G-Maxx. I love me some Maxx trucks! |

Nice Maxx dude. They sure are my favorite RC. I think once I found the EMaxx trucks when they first came out I have not let go of my fondness for them ever since. My first really nice big durable RC it was and that just got me hooked. Lots of GMaxx builds around lately. Love it! :yipi: Robin just said on the UE forum last week that a new run of Monoblocks is coming so keep checking the store daily. If he announces it on the site I will post up over here and let everyone know. |
I have a set of UE shocks with the Progressive Suspension piggybacks. Comes with the chrome springs.
If your interested in buying them from me let me know. I only run the powerstrokes on my Gorillamaxx trucks so I don't need them. Justin |
Always nice to see another Gmaxx brought to life.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like a great basher.

I like the way it looks. Looks like the trans has been turned into a single speed? If so then it should hold up for a while especially if you get a steel idler gear in it. I never had luck with stock diffs or aftermarket on my trucks. But since getting the UE diffs I have had no issues.

I baked off some Mashers today from the 1/2" offset wheels they were on, I think w/o the extended chassis the stance was just too wide. I mounted them on to these wheels instead, I think they are 0 offset and I like it a lot better! Heres a couple pics.

Check out this thread. He has a very nice mount for the center diff and he is trying to get enough people wanting one to have a small run made. Would make mounting that center diff a piece of cake.

" We just ran a batch of monos, and I just picked them up from the polisher. they look great and are in stock." Get one while you can man!!! |
I want one, and the 100.5mm shaft, but I need to sell my extra CC1520 first to get the cash. I have had it listed for $95 on other forums, guess I'm going to list it here in a few to try and speed up the process...I have never sold or bought anything off this forum before, but have a boatload of positive feedback on others I can reference...
