My home made RC lawn mower
I haven't ever posted any quality builds to add anything cool what so ever to this forum. But I have gained a lot from here since my ever so green start 6 years ago.
I just bought my first home a few months ago and have been living independently since. Being a quadriplegic pushing a mower is out of the question and I got tired of bribing my negibor with beer to cut my grass so I designed this first prototype to help me add to my independence. It's a Murry 22" 5hp briggs mower, powered by 2 12v 75 ah marine batteries in series, a sabertooth 2x60 speed controller, with 2 permobile C300 5mph motors, on 13x5-6 turff tires, with harbor freight 8" castors up front, on 1" by 1" box tubing frame. beefy enough for a 200+ lb man to ride on without slowing down...in fact my friends little 6 year old has a blast riding on it every time he comes by now. Mower off of course. Next up is a electric start hybrid with 24v marine altinator smaller batteries and more compact and lower profile. will post when its done http://www.apparelyzed.com/forums/to...-with-friends/ I'd embed the video but my work computer wont allow youtube so I had to link my posting from another forum. anyway enjoy my new toy and thanks RCM for great info over these past years |
Thanks for sharing man, I've been wondering where you have been. I haven't seen you around since you were trying to make a water cooling vest.
Thanks for linking to that site too. I don't know why I've never looked for an online injury support forum, but I think it will help me. And don't think we need "epic" builds here, share anything you've got. All r/c is all good! Excellent work and excellent execution of a plan. As a side note: I've got a pair of wheelchair motors/gearboxes up for grabs if anyone is interested in a project like this. Shipping would be a lot, but their yours if you can use them. |
Amazing job. V impressed.

amazing - it just goes to show the mother of invention is necessity. heck, i'd like one of those. it's pretty remarkable - nice work!

That is way cool!! I applaud you for your perseverance and not letting things stand in your way!

Thats great bro!!! Thanks for sharing that!!! Looks like it work really well!!!
|
Nothing short of spectacular!! Very nice job.
Congratulations on your home and your independence. I know my son just moved away from home to attend College just a little over a month ago and he is really enjoying living away for once in his life. I still go up and help with bowel and shower but other than that his live in aide does everything else. That is very cool and so happy to see that mower. It is awesome what imagination and determination gets people these days. Bravo sir!! :) |
:lolDo the motors have hubs for wheels or just gearbox with a keyway axle sticking out? I might be able to use them on a different mower setup. any chance you could link a few pics plus make and model chair they came from?
The V-1 cooling vest is done and works ok. I underestimated flow and made the mistake of routing 1 tube front and rear so you get cool but not as well as I wanted. V-2 will be the same insulated vest but 4 leads vs 1 wich should fix all issues. I havent run my trucks in months due to independence overload. Started work, got the house, Moved out, built RC mower, am designing a custom quad friendly PS3 XBOX360 controller with bigger buttons and analog joysticks, as well as built in sip n puff switches that can be pluged into any action button to help play all shooters with ease. among other things that suck up my time.:yipi: Quote:

They were out of a pride quantum blast, they are the "HD" motors and gearboxes (good for 7.5mph @ 24 volts) Perfectly good units, they were replaced because the medical supply store that provided the chair couldn't get the wheels off:neutral: Awesome to hear about the vest. Congrats on the home man, that is awesome. I'm glad you are keeping busy. I'm just about done with an r/c snowmobile!:yipi: |
Awesome project. I thought about RC-ing a lawnmower several times, but never did it. Excellent work!

In time maybe a weedeating arm on it as well and call it the l-vanna cut a lot
|
Would be kinda cool to attach weed eater string on the edge of the mowing blades so you could trim and cut at the same time :oh:
