Convert MBX 9.5 Pro, or buy Nexx8?
Obviously the cheaper route is to covert the 9.5 in terms of cost. I already own it, and the parts from Mike would be in the $75-$80 range (battery tray + mount).
Durability wise this has always been one of the heaviest buggies I think I've ever seen, its tougher than anything else I've ever driven. But the weight is a big drawback. Its the Pillowball suspension model and has always done exceptionally well handling the rough stuff. The other option is to buy the Nexx8 (really like the saddle pack layout). And it uses essentially Jammin parts so it'll share stuff with the truggy. Its also lighter, and much better handling than the MBX 9.5 would be. But there is the $250 expense of purchasing it compared to simply converting the 9.5. Decisions? Anyone care to weigh in? Don't have many pics of it, but this is the 9.5 Pro page on OFNA.com. http://www.ofna.com/95mbx.php http://www.ofna.com/images/95/95mbx-top-BIG.jpg |
Well I've seen you like to visit the track, don't know how serious you are but that could play a role in your decision. The MBX is based off the ancient Ultra/LX series buggies, and they're tanks, but they weigh as much too. I like them because of it and they're fairly inexpensive, but I really want a newer buggy. I just can't justify it because the only reason I have a buggy is to beat it up driving it like I stole it. I don't think I could do that to am 8ight or other more expensive race oriented buggy.
You could get a decent buck on ebay for the MBX though depending on condition and completeness though. Might make an upgrade not as tough to swallow. |

The cost of the parts needed to convert it are about $70 ($45 mount, $20 50x150mm tray, shipping). So in that respect, its obviously the cheaper option. If i kept it though, one of the things I would like to upgrade is to big bore shocks. The stock shocks are the same ones OFNA has used on their stuff forever. I've rebuilt them before, but it seems the C-Clip channels are worn out, because I have a single shock that likes to blow-out occasionally on it. So there is the cost of maintenance/upgrading it. I do agree about its durability, its survived many a 40ft jumps off ramps. I did have a Jammin X1cr FTE, but that was sold to fund my X1 CRT Pro conversion. Of the two buggies i'd rather have kept the Jammin, but the Jammin X1cr was a much better sell for people. Its more recent than the MBX, and a much higher spec buggy as well. It sold alot faster, and I got much better $$$ for it. |
