Gearing for Brushless Revo/E-maxx 9XL
 

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with running a Feigao 9XL in an e-maxx or brushless revo using an e-maxx transmision. (Diff gearing is the same for revo and emaxx) I just got a 9XL and a Quark 125MonsterPro ESC and I'm looking for advice eon gearing. The only spur options I have are 66T and 70T. (I'm using the robinson racing slipper).

I am planning on starting with a 24T pinion and testing it out. That should be pretty conservative. I also have a 26T. Do you think going a high as 29 would be to much? I plan on running in second gear most of the time.

BTW I'm using 5S Lipo for the batteries.

your going to probably want a strobe setup/51T(spure) it many vary on what you want. Are you aiming for run time or speed?

I have a few questions. What tires you running?
If you running close to stock tire the 24 66 should be ok.

I'm running proline bowties or Losi Zombie Maxx tires. Both are pretty close to stock size.

As for what I'm loking for, I have 8000mah 5cell lipo setup that I am going to be running. I want something that I will be able to run for a full charge and not overheat. Id rather be a little safe than agressive, at least at first. If the initial setup works out ok I may rty stepping up the gearing to maximuze the speed, but I want to start on the safer end.

I thought that the 66/24 gearing would be ok as well from what I have read in the forums here. The main reason I asked is cuz theres not much gearing info for a 66t spur. Like you guys said most are running the strobe 51t.

So do you think the 66/24 would be ok?

51/18 = 2.83 ratio
51/20 = 2.55 ratio

66/24 = 2.75 ratio
66/26 = 2.53 ratio

From what I have read on the forums here 51/18 or 51/20 seems to be the setup most are running w/ the 9xl. So I figured that if I matched the ratio on the 66T spurr I should get similar results. The 66/24 ratio seems to be right in the middle and the 66/26 is on the more agressive end.

I think that this logic works right?

9xl for me with 1/8 buggy diffs which gear me down more. I don't run the gearing you plan to run. If you want it more relible and longer running with less heat I would go little farther down than what you have. A 20 66 would work alot better. I was thinking you going for a speed run. You can try it but watch temps on motor.

I have a 14T, 16T, 18T, and 20T as well. If you think that 24 is high to begin with, I'll start with the 20T and see how that runs first.

22/66 is what I would go for.

I Have a 20 and a 24 so I'll start with those. I'll get a 22 if it looks like that is the right one.

Start with the 20 and go from there. That away you can get a estimate on speed and power along with some motor temps.

I run 51/16 with my 9XL, seems a tad undergeared. 20 or 18 depending on if you want that bit more acceleration or top speed.
