UBEC for LST2 Brushless Conversion

Can someone help me out on what amp UBEC I would need for my LST2 brushless conversion. I was using the receiver pack to power the servos but in the 2 years its sat in the garage, the receiver pack is now not holding voltage. Rather than replace that old outdated POS, I figure i might as well power from a BEC off the 6S Lipo. It has stock dual steering servos and one servo doing the brakes. Would a 3 amp UBEC do the job?

I do believe a 3 amp BEC would do the job. But depends on which you are looking at, it's probably just as expensive as the Castle Creation 10 amp one. This would give a nice cushion in case you upgrade those servos later on to some more amp hungry ones.

I was thinking of this one. Apologize if I'm not allowed to post links here.

That one would probably work well with stock servos.

is there a convincing argument to continue with a receiver pack or will these do the jobs just as well? I might just get the castle bec if I go that route as even though its more money, its only 8 bucks more with free shipping if I order it at the same time I get my son his mini revo.

The BEC you linke has 2 options for output, 5v or 6v.

The Castle BEC has the ability to be programmed for a range of 4.8-9v. So this would encompass more versatility if do go with new servos in th LST2. As well as the 1 yr warranty on Castle products.

+1 to both posts

no worries of the bec malfunctioning and taking out the radio gear? it never happened with my helicopters, but thats my main worry with the bec aside from the fact that the receiver pack can put out more amps I assume?

That can happen with any BEC due to they way all switching buck regulators are designed. However, a BEC running at less than its full capability will have less of a chance of that happening since the components are not stressed as much.

Castle BEC works fine every time, and will power any servo at the voltage you decide (with the castle link). I have several, never had any problems with them.

I ended up going with the one I mentioned earlier in the thread, so far so good. Castle is a pain because you have to buy a programming card to get the thing to 6 volts.

Also, if you have the new version of the MMM, you can adjust the voltage on the built in bec
