wheel nuts keep loosening
 

The 23mm hexes that I put on my lst2 keep loosening the wheel nuts. mostly left front but all of them loosen up. I can't even get through one run. the dude racing sells bellville washers or wave washers that are supposed to stop this by keeping tension on the nut. Does anyone know where I could buy something like this locally?

I've read that people say to use blue loctite, but from my experience loctite eats through plastic so i'm trying to stay away from that idea. Plus my wheels are chrome as well.

Loctite the inside of that nut, or the outside of the hex with the wheel off. After that, let it dry for 24 or so hours and you won't have the plastic problem. You can also find wheel nuts that come with either an O-ring or it's knurled to try and keep it on there.

if I let it dry before putting it together, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the loctite?

as for what you said, do you have any links for the nuts mentioned? I found integy ones like you mentioned but that was it and they are only bronze colored. Would really like to keep the blue nuts that I have on it.

Have you ever screwed a screw that had dried loctite on it? It makes it more sticky, kind of acts like a lock nut. I would try what KMN said. Let some loctite dry on the hex or the nut, or even with them screwed together. Get some loctite dried up on the threads and give it a shot. If it doesn't work, you're not out any money, if it does, great!

no, I never tried it, thats why I was asking. I will give that a shot, nothing to lose. the nuts are real thin so just get some on the hex threads and let them dry?

I've had the best luck just letting it dry on the hubs, versus getting it on the nuts and letting those dry.....

Integy, as bad as they are, and I do not even recommend their nuts, is bad. I've had Integy 17mm's that were knurled and O-ringed strip out Kyosho and Hot Bodies hubs, even properly applied. They galled the aluminum, removed the anno, and stripped out the hubs. Your best bet is to let the loctite dry first, and then put the nut on. It's the best way I've found, but you have to re-apply with most hubs as they are fine thread. I usually just put a drop on the day(or month) before I run, and tighten the wheel nuts up. MAKE SURE they're properly threaded on, and give the loctite a chance to dry. It works, trust me.

If you have the funds, talk to King Headz. They make 23MM, and can make you what you want. Reverse knurled nuts for the left side, if they don't already.

I had the problem with my GTP. Ended it by using mild 3m spray adhesive on the threads. I dries tacky and doesn't allow the nut to spin off.

cheater!!

never got a chance to try the teflon tape out although I did put it on the nut. My kid wanted to run on the street out front and I didn't want to ruin the nice cen tires so I swapped back to the 20mm hexes and stock lst2 wheels. Nuts not loosening now, with the 23mm hexes, they loosened every run. Maybe I just got crappy hexes?
