Lipo wiring Question
 

I have a BK 12020 w/ wond 8XL set up UE spyder 8, Ue 6mm cvd 's & center, strobe 51 w 20pinon. Currently I am Have the 12020 wired for series 18 3300 promatch cells. I like this set up except for run time. I do like speed runs. I have ordered Apache 5s packs from mike. Should I wire for Parallel ?
Mike did mention it. Would the 12020 handle 5s in series? What would be the main differances between wiring 5s in Parallel & series.

If you had 2 5S in series that would make for 10S lipo and would be to much for the controller and motor. So yes, you need to wire the lipo packs in parallel.

Running my promatch 2 packs (9 cells ea) in parallel- in general what would I expect as run time & power? What about run time of the Apache
5s.

If you ran your two 9cell packs in parallel, you'd only get 10.8v, but 6600mah and twice the amp draw capability. The performance would be approximately half of what it is now.

Since you have two 5s Apache packs, you'd want to run them in parallel. This would give you 5s (18.5v) 7400mah, with a continuous discharge rating of 111amps, which means that these batteries certainely won't be the limiting factor in any powerful setup that you can put in an E-Maxx. For runtime I think you can expect about 30mins, depending on how you drive and what terrain you drive on.

I'm just starting to look into Lipos, I've read quite a few posts but i just keep seeing numbers and letters, 3s2p and serial parallel and I'm getting really confused, not hard i know! :002:,just seems you need a degree in electronics, I'm used to just throwing a set of NiMH batts in my maxx, could anyone give me a complete beginners breakdown of what these numbers mean and a diagram of how you wire these things up, i think my mind is making it more complicated then it really is.

This is going to be a big step for me going over to Lipos so i really wonna get it straight in my head before i start thinking of buying anything.

3s2p means 3 cells in series and 2 cells in parallel making a total of 6 cells in the pack

The 3s meaning 3 cells in series tells you to voltage of the pack 3*3.7 which is 11.1V in the pack

and the 2p means that there is 2 lots of the 3s in parallel

wiring packs in series adds the voltage of the packs together and wiring them in parallel ads the capacity (mah) of the cells together

think that explains what you wanted to now as basicly as i can put it

I have recieved the Apache 5s from Mike and currently am rewiring my 12020 for parallel, I have waited a while to install because Mike was waiting on a new "car model" LVC . It is in route to me. This forum and "monster mike" made it easy to make informed decisions on what to get. It all seems much more simple now but am no expert. Mike told me to get the Hyperion LBA6 and got powersupply & two Multiplex chargers from the store. I also was just used to my NIMH's & this is a big step for me also. I should be running new LIPO set up soon & look foreward to a new level of performance. I can keep you posted if you like.

lets see if I understood it correctly. 3s means 3 cells connected in series just like a standard Nimh pack, this adds the voltage of each cell together to give you the pack voltage, 2p means another 2 cells in parallel, now this is where I'm a bit fuzzy on, if each cell is 3200mah does each cell in parallel increase the pack mah by its 3200mah IE 3s = 11.1v 3200mah + 2p 3200mah+3200mah = 11.1v 9600mah? or does 2 cells only increase it by 3200mah?
I'm also a bit unclear on how you wire up 3 cells in series and another 2 in parallel, sorry if this is a bit of a dense question.

the 2P means twice the amount of cells you have in series so 3S2P is 3 cells in series and another 3 in parallel to them

2P gives two cells in parallel, doubling the capacity. A 3s2p pack using 3200mah cells is 11.1v 6400mah.

Monkey, that's one way to do it. The other way is to have 3 sets of 2P pairs (3.7v 6400mah) and then put those pairs in series. It still gives 3s2p, but it's a different (and better IMO) way to do it so there is still the same output.

Does anyone have a link to a picture or some kind of diagram that shows how the batteries are wired together in series vs. parallel? I actually understand the series but would like to see how parallel is wired.
