Brushless Twitching, no throttle

Hi guys, I have an emaxx fitted out withe a warrior 9920 esc and I think and 8xl from way back (about 5 years ago)

Havent used it a lot over the last year or so but recently took it out and when i plug it in it twitches pretty badly and I cant apply throttle unless I do it really slowly.

When i pull the throttle trigger, it just cuts and does nothing.

How do I troubleshoot this?

Is it the motor, esc or something else?

Have tried a different radio and receiver.

Thanks for your help

Dave

whats the best entry level to go with these days?

Is it the mamba max pro? will it work with my motor?

Thanks!

What twitches? The motor? It twitches with no input from the controller? We need more info. Can you post a quick vid of what it's doing?

ozdave 02.26.2013 05:38 PM

The motor twitches. back and forth. Then when i try to apply the throttle unless i do it reaallly slowly it will cut out and stop everything including the twitching.

Release the throttle and it twitches again.

Hard to post a vid as its all in pieces at the moment. Was checking all the connectors etc on the weekend. All look fine

What kind of batteries? Have they been sitting with no maintenance for the year since you ran it last?

ozdave 02.27.2013 04:41 AM

nihm batteries. Yes largely have been sitting i guess. I did charge a few times to top up over this period though, maybe 2 - 3. They charge fine except for a couple that wont charge at all.

Could be the batteries?

it could be the batteries. Make sure your ESC is set to NiMH mode (I'm not familiar with that ESC, don't even know if it has a low voltage cutoff).

The constant twitching with no throttle does not sound like a battery issue, but some electronics do weird things with low batts.

The dying when giving it throttle and able to move if very slowly applying throttle do sound like poor/bad batteries.

You know anyone at the hobby shop or something that'd let you try a different battery set or ESC?

I think given the age of the gear, a new esc & batts is in order....

For an esc, you want to be looking at the MambaMonster, nothing smaller, or the Tekin RX8 ( or for a cheaper option the HobbyWing XErun 150amp model ). For batts, go lipo- a pair of 2s ~5000mah 30-50C packs will work very nicely. Nimhs just won't cut it unless you are happy with pedestrian speed and punch.
