Turnigy balancing question also shipping review

After studying the issue on the internet and looking at pictures online of balance plugs it seems like a 4s balance plug coming from a turnigy battery should be able to plug into a hyperion balance board in the 4s slot. Am I right? The same should be true for 5 and 6s too.

I have been a Hyperion advocate ever since I learned to stay away from Maxamps around in 2008. I still think Hyperion is one of the best if not the best, but I must try Nanotech. The pricing seems irresistible, and it seems like all lipos come from China anyway. Hyperion is in hongkong. I have two 35c 5000mah 4s nanotechs on the way and they took a whole week to leave the USA warehouse. I give them no marks for this slow shipping. I hope to be delighted by the batts.

That is all. Thanks,
Zack

They're not intended to fit. With enough force anything can fit anywhere.

JST-XH (nanotech) balance boards or balancer adapters are cheap as hell, just get a new board or adapter.

One does not shop at hobby king for quick shipping, they shop there for the price.

I have ordered over 2 dozen times from hobby king, and never had a problem. If you want it shipped fast you can pay to have them shipped fast. If you choose the cheap shipping you wait longer.

I've ordered from them maybe two dozen times too, had problems half a dozen times. Getting these problems resolved is nearly impossible. Out of those half a dozen screw ups the only time they did anything was when they shipped me totally the wrong thing. It took countless emails, photographs and finally a credit card & paypal dispute to get them to ship me the right batts. I had to pay the return shipping (which they promised to reimburse but never did.)

I'm at the point where if they F up, I just take it up the tail knowing it's way more trouble than it's worth to get them to fix their F ups.

In my book, they have the worst customer service out there.

Also I've had lots of packs lose one cell early in their life cycle. IMHO their quality is about a C, combined with their dismal customer service IMHO it's not really worth the savings.

Oh crap! Well I will be sure to let everyone know how it goes. I just got another update on shipping. It is still a whole week out. Supposed to arrive the 20th now. It should have been here the 9th.

Thanks,
Zack

a dozen order and no problems here.

Packs 3+ years old still work fine (Turnigy 40c), just not in high amp setups. 1.5years no problem in the 1717 maxx... good batts for the price.

Havent tried the nanos... too long.:whip:

I cant remember if it is hyperion or flightpower/thunderpower that uses balance connectors of the same size and pin spacing as the JST XH that hobbyking packs come with, one has a retension clip and the other ha alignment tabs so if you cut the tabs off one it will physically fit in the other and all the pins will make contact, which is a bad thing as the pinouts going to the connectors are different and you will blow the balancing circuit on your charger (or worse). Buy a Hyperion - XH balance lead or board, they are widely available and reasonably priced.

Hobbyking offer some of the best prices in the world and they can only do that by selling in huge volumes but the downside of getting thousands of orders a day is that they often have a backlog and it can easily be a week before they get to yours, if you want cheap and dont mind waiting use Hobbyking, if you want something within a week you will have to use a store in your own locality, but even if they are internet warehouses these stores have to pay import taxes and make a profit so you pay considerably more for the speed. If you want something quick you will have to go to your LHS, they have a high rent to pay on their shop and business rates as well as import taxes and have to pay their friendly and knowledgeable staff, supply the tea/coffee and make a profit so you will pay a lot more than from Hobbyking, but you can get it this afternoon, have a chat, a drink, and get good advice there, which may stop you spending twice and save you money in the long run.

Hey! a lot of great responses here. Thanks Paul! Why do you say that I will blow my charger(or worse) are you saying that the 5 balance wires on a nanotech jstxh 4s go to different cells compared to a Hyperion 4s? It seems to me they would go to the same cells. The red wire is in the same place. Hmm now that I think about it it does seem like hyperion skids from the second plug. Like maybe the second pin isnt for the 1st cell(red being 1st pin) while a jstxh does go in order. Would it matter? Just as long as they all balance right? And the red is in the same place.

Thanks,
Zack

I say it because I thought the same thing cut the alignment pins off a pack and blew my charger trying it. I have a feeling it was TP/FP and Hyperion is the one with different pin spacing so it can't fit anyway but it was a long time ago and I could be wrong.

If you are going to try and convert them yourself check the pinouts with a voltmeter and check them against your Hyperion cells, but for the pricwe of balance converter leads I don't think it is worth the hassle.

42 orders and probably about $2000 through hobbykind and I've only had minor niggles with them. One package was smashed in post and everything fell out. I just had to open a claim with the post office, send them pics of the busted box and claim and they resent the whole order (only like $15 worth of stuff).

Had some hit and miss batteries, some parts out of round and a couple bent. I would say at least 94% of the stuff I get is perfect though. I would never order things like, pinion gears from them. I've also had poor luck with hex tools.... (was a pentagon, not a hex, LOL).

Love Turnigy batteries. Not sure if Nanotech is worth it or w/e, they all seem to perform similarly to my ignoramus eye.

Will a Hobbyking balance board attach to my hyperion charger? Are those plugs fairly universal?

Kcaz25 05.17.2013 06:49 PM

I see the big hobbyking universal board. Will my hyperion charger plug into that board?

brainanator 05.17.2013 07:12 PM

I have no idea what the hyperion balance lead adapter plug looks like. You might be able to try looking through the discussions on hobbyking, or maybe even searching through some more forums to see if anyone has asked a similar question.

I know at the time I was on my phone and feeling kinda lazy after work. I'm feeling better now. lol

My batteries just arrived from hobbyking!! THis should work right? Hobbyking tab in this hyperion balance board? It fits easy. Like it was meant to be.

Kcaz25 05.18.2013 08:30 PM

Okay! Check it out! My batteries did arrive today instead of on Monday. So not as good as it could have been but not bad. Really shipping wasn't as bad as I initially said. They look great!

Going up to my local hobby shop was a good decision. They had a universal board that I could open and try out. It plugged right in. But it was 18 dollars.

Notice that the cells in pack one are all in sync! Pack two has one cell that has 3.82 all the others have 3.81 Haha its perfect!
