Charging a battery for storage

Good morning all,

I have a fairly new Hyperion 5s lipo that I purchased from Mike a few months ago. Now that it is winter here in Mass. I am putting my RC equipment away for the winter.

I'm wondering how I can put this battery into storage mode. Right now I'm using a MRC Superbrain 989 Charger. This charger does not have storage mode as a setting. I've read that storage mode should be around 60%. What is the best way to do this?

Thanks,
Nick

I think about 7.8 volts is what a storage charge does.

7.8V is for a 2S pack. For a 5S pack it would be about 19.5V.

To the original poster:

If the battery is already above 19.5V resting voltage, you should discharge it somewhat. I can't really think of any way for you to do that except running it in a car. I have my own techniques, but if all you've got is that MRC charger, they are not applicable.

If it is under 19.5, put it on the charger for a little while and take it off and measure the voltage. Repeat until you get to 19.5.:mdr:

If you have room in your fridge, keep the pack in there over the winter (inside a plastic bag, with a dessicant pouch) and it will last longer. Don't charge it until it is back to room temperature.
