Monster torque control issues and questions.
For some reason when I try to use torque control it seems to work for a few seconds on initial take off and then abruptly hits full power.
I tried different firmware and different generation monsters but they all reacted the same. It's not a nice linear power curve. With it off its normal full power like it should be. I have 5 monsters in all and can't get the torque control rite on any of them. The motor test works every time and is allways very close to motor kv spec. Maybe I'm expecting to much ? It should work across the whole rpm range and not the first 3 feet of acceleration rite? |
I am using the Torquecontrol with three Mamba Monsters in different cars, it seems to work through the whole RPM range for me.

Did you happen to change the motor timing setting after the test was completed? The motor timing setting will affect the results of the motor test. If you change motor timing after a motor test, you must complete the motor test again.
Also make sure you have the punch control setting disabled. It will interfere with the torque limit feature and will show the symptoms you're describing. The torque limit is a current limiter and sets a maximum allowable amount of current the ESC will allow the motor to pull. The value is set through the entire throttle range, but you will pull significantly more current when starting from a dead stop versus when the vehicle is already moving. So for example if the current limit is at 200 amps and your motor is trying to pull 240 amps starting from a dead start, you will feel the effects of the limiter. Once the vehicle is moving though it takes significantly less current to accelerate the vehicle. So you may only pull 150 amps when you hammer the throttle and you won't feel the effects of the torque limit. Please see this thread for more details on the torque limit feature and how the setting's value sets the current limit: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...56&postcount=2 Thomas Porfert Tech Support Castle Creations |
thanks for the tips guys but i finally got it working on one of my monsters. The weird part is i had to go all the way back to 1.32 firmware to get it to work properly. With the newest firmware it would take off slow and then hit full power in like 2 seconds. back to 1.32 and it works across the whole rpm range. Now i gotta try the other monsters and see if the react the same to the 1.32. I have one monster 2 so its gonna be interesting to see how that goes since i cant load old firmware on it
