New 1717 with loose rotor balancing putty - please advise

Hi,

I received a new Castle 1717-1650 motor today, bought at a US "chop-shop". It made a bit of a rattle, so I opened it up and found the rotor balancing putty had come loose. The motor should be new/unused and it doesn't look like it was handled roughly or dropped.

Is this a typical thing or just bad luck? Last pic shows comparison of the front putty and the rear putty that came off; front looks to be applied smoother, not sure that indicates anything particular, but it was just something I noticed.

Main question: is this something I should be able to easily fix myself (marks on the rotor do show where the putty was, see second pic) or better send it back for a replacement?

Appreciate your help.

It is just bad luck. I would send it back for a replacement.

It appears the balancing epoxy did not stick/cure properly.

Unfortunately we cannot replace this motor if you send it to us. We only produce that motor for Traxxas for the XO-1 super car and as such we do not provide service and/or warranty for Traxxas products.

We also cannot offer a non-warranty replacement as we do not have those motors in the building to replace it with. They are built in China and shipped directly to Traxxas facilities in Taiwan. You will need to contact Traxxas for any type of service for that motor. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :(

Thanks for the help guys!

I will send it back to the shop I bought it from, just wanted your opinion whether this is something I could easily fix myself, as I'm in Europe and sending it back for a replacement will take some more time.
