question for warrior 9920
 

I am sure this has been posted somewhere before so I'm sorry for the repeat. My 9920 runs great but after a short time maybe 4-5 minutes, the motor will stop running and the servo for the steering gets stuck when turning. The truck still seems to have the max power in the batts, but it seems like it goes in to a safety mode and won't allow the motor to engage. Is this a problem with the internal BEC of the 9920? Can this pro blem be solved with the installation of a UBEC? Thanks for any help.

It sounds like that's the problem,what setup you running? i'd always go with a reciever pack or ubec.Could be that the little internal bec is overheating,i'm not sure.Do you have a reciever pack you could try?

How many cells are you running and how hot is the ESC when this happens?

This happens with both 12 and 14 cells. The esc does not seem to be getting in to the 150 range but I have not put a temp gun on it either. I do have a reciever pack I could try but I was trying to avoid cutting into the shrink wrap any more than I have to. Will the esc run cooler with a UBEC installed? I'm going with an overheating BEC chip. Usually they have over-temperature circuits built in, and with enough voltage (even 12 cells), this can be triggered (they have no heastink and are insulated from cooling air). Once the BEC chip cools down, it will be able to operate normally, until it heats up again.

You shouldn't notice a difference in the temperature of the 9920 with a UBEC because the BEC chip is on the bottom of the controller, covered by the shrink wrap.

Yes, it's an internal BEC thing for sure.

Try a receiver pack or the UBEC, that would fix your problem. What steeringservo are you using?

I find my 9920 to run much cooler with a ubec. Never had problems with my BEC, even on 14, ESC got very tasty though.

I have a used (ebay) 9920 that overheats the same way. I am using it w/ a UBEC now, but I cant seem to locate the balck jumper that is described to turn off the internal BEC. If I just disconect the middle red wire on the plug will that just do the same thing as pulling the black plug?

No, you HAVE to unlplug the black bec jumper, it is located to the lower left of the black.

The red wire will do the same. If you look at the shrink on the underside behind where the red jumper is little ways. You can see the outline of it. You have to cut the shrink a little. reamove the red wire and tape it up so not touching metal and you good as well.
