I need to manauly control a servo
 

Hey guys its been a while but I need some help. I need to control a standard rc servo with a manual switch for a small robotic project. how do I go about doing this? internet is turning up nothing.

As in flick switch and servo moves between 2 positions? Or continuous movement?

Switch on remote control or on device?

Two positions is easy. Just look at a third channel setup on a transmission like an eMaxx

For continuous movement based on a switch look at RC winch setups.

Ideally I would like it to be a toggle switch to operate by a hand.

this is gonna be a motorized front license plate for car shows. so it flips up under the bumper and swings down when I want it.

I know I've seen vehicles before with flip up license plates. From what I've been told is that they stay down when the vehicle is turned on then when you shut the car off the plate flips up. This seems like a lot of work to be able to control the plate yourself.

If you want a flip switch instead of the dial on the servo tester: I think it should be possible to use the right resistors. The dial on a servo tester is basically just an adjustable resistor, if you measure the ohm values it gives in the desired positions, you can replace it by resistors with those values and a switch.

Or maybe get some cheap 3 channel radio from hobbyking, throw away the transmitter case, steering wheel etc., put it in a small box and you have a radio-controlled license plate.

If you have a lowrider, you could also add a gyro to make the license plate always stay level when you let it bounce ;)
