Get me up to date! Need info please
1 Attachment(s)
It's been a while since I've been on here. I have a t-maxx with hardcore titanium chassis I have left over from all my builds. I want to convert it to bash and have some fun. Want to run a traxxas 1515 2200kv motor on 4s or 5s but not sure what esc to run. Already have the adapter for the summit 2 speed trans I'm going to use. Have 2 one piece batt trays coming. Looking at the new traxxas and castle escs. What's the latest? I've used the castle mmmv3 and still have one. The new versions different? I read something about them being locked and notice they have an extra capuciter pack on them. Should I put one of those on my mmm? Also recommend me some good set of lipos 4s or 5s that won't break the bank. I also have a ofna hyper 7 I am almost done converting too. Get me up to date guys. Lol why that pic is upside down beats me.

The latest 1:8 scale ESC from Castle in de Mamba Monster X.
I have the original MMM, that works great for me, I use a Castle BEC, but that is just because I run my servo on 7,4v. Castle ESCs had some problems with brown outs, maybe that is what the extra cap is for? The newer versions of the Mamba Monster, are the MM2 and the X, both are waterproof, and have a selectable BEC voltage maxing out at 7,4v, where the original tops out at 6v. I like Gens Ace battery's, not to expensive, and great customer support. |
If I had to buy a new system for my setup which one would you get? Anybody? Keep affordability and reliability in mine. Smokin 3 mmm escs at that high speed event back in the day wasn't a good experience. Of course I was abusing them and castle fixed them all for free. Thanks again castle! that's why I want castle products again. I was thinking a xo1 setup.

Honestly, if you aren't going to run really large tires, I still believe the Castle 2200kv motor is the most appropriate Castle offering for this truck. The 1717 from the XO1 would be great, I'd just worry about blowing diffs all the time, unless you're going to swap in LSTs or UE diffs.
Other motor I would suggest is a Tekin 1700kv truggy motor. I would swap up for the latest Castle MM X for the waterproofing and latest technology. |
Yea 2200 it's going to be. But I was thinking the xo esc. Castle mm x? Don't think ive seen that one yet. Are turnigy lipos still pretty good?

Hey Rivermaxx! Did you get my PM?
CLICK RCMLINKMONSTERX Since you have a MMMv3 I would use that. But if you want one of the many features that the MMX has over the MMM definitely get that. I have a MMM(probably like v10) but I wanted sensored for something specific so I just received a MMX in the mail. I am going to have have it soldered up tomorrow! BTW The mmmv3 or the MMX will power a 1717 just fine. Yes, the batteries from Hobbyking are pretty good. They are good enough. Make sure to get batteries that are rated for at least "35c". I would get the nanotech packs. |
I need 2 escs I'll use the mmm for my buggy build. Just want what ever is the newest version esc is but not sure which is newer esc , xo1 or mmx ?. Not going to run the 1717, 2200 has plenty of power. Is the x01 esc basically a mmm with extra capacitors? Or is it more programmable? Is the new blue case traxxas escs the same water proof castle mmx? Read something about being locked too. What's the deal with that?

The newest Monster ESC is the X.
First was the MMM1, then the MMM2 and now the MMM X. The X has some nice features, I would go with that one if I was in the market for a new ESC. If I am correct, the X01 ESC is a MMM1 with extra caps, but they might have changed that to the MMM2 with extra caps. Squirrel on Youtube has send his ESC in for warranty a while ago, and he got a normal MMM1 back. The waterproof ESC's in the E-Maxx and E-Revo brushless are a MMM2 with a different case if I am correct. |
Ok now I see.
|
The MMX is vastly superior to the MMM2 IMHO.
:) |
Yea but I don't think I need it for a basher. I really just want reliability. With that mmx being latest esc I'm willing to wait till all the bugs are out before I buy.
