Supermaxx Lightning here
Firstly, this took over 2 weeks to get to me and by was it worth the wait! The quality, the look! Everything is just unreal! I love it and I won't let anyone near it. :D
On it's own: http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/uploads/...7_46_43264.jpg http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/uploads/...7_46_23587.jpg The whole truck: http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/uploads/..._46_126716.jpg http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/uploads/...7_46_64675.jpg http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/uploads/..._46_143470.jpg So far the quality is ALOT better than the Gorilla, the design just tops it up. I'll be able to run it next week to compare the performance. It has so many areas I like about it and eliminates all the Gorilla flaws. If the performance is good, I'll never look back! :D Alot longer too, I can see some real good performance out of this. Titanium centre shafts are incredible to. Amazing. Love love love love love! :D |
Looks great!
Why doy ou say the quality is alot better? And what flaws are you talking about in the Gorilla? |
very VERY nice!!!! :004: cant say alot more really, 'cause the green eyed monster has taken me over........................
|
Very nice! I think nick likes the higher chassis.

The flaws which I found in the Gorilla was the flimsy top plate holding the servo. A powerful servo could easily flex it, taking power from the stearing. I heard Mike and some others double up the top plate to stop it. I didn't like how the whole bottom plate was like one giant skid either - but I guess that is a design for racers, where as I bash mine. ;) You REALLY need to have one and experience it, what I type here won't show the great feeling of the build quality on it, I just can't explain it. Thanks for comments! |
Yes, you are absolutely correct. The main reason that Gorilla doesn't use the 7075 is probably because of the added weight, price, ect. I do like the looks of the Lightning but the light CG chassis isn't really my cup of tea though.
|
I'm sure 7075 is actually lighter and about double the strength of 6061. ;)
|
I didn't know it was lighter but added strength is obvious. But with the strength, ect. comes a added price...

7075 is heavier than 6061.
Nice ride! |
Yeah it's more dense and harder,a 7075 part could be similar weight and strength but be smaller and harder but likewise a 6061 part could be similarly strong at the same weight but be physically larger in volume.so for the same part/same volume of material, the 7075 part would be stronger but heavier.something like that:005: .
I like the g-maxx design myself, looks like a very efficient use of material so it's as light (or lighter?) than stock yet very strong and has the lower CG.the intricate machining on the UE looks very nice though. |
I always liked the higher C of G on the Maxx, just for the look of it.
I had to settle for the poor Man's version though :010: |
Where did you get it from. The UE site has been ot of stock on the deck for months now. I would love to get one as well. I think its a better design for bashing than the Gmaxx. The gmaxx is great for racing, but the UE is better for the rough stuff. I'd love track one of these down. Ive also been whatching ebay, but nothing ever seems to pop up.
Any leads as the where I can track one down? |
One one eBay! 7 hours left:
http://cgi.ebay.com/UE-Thunder-Chass...ayphotohosting I got mine from USA second hand but came to me as new. It is amazing how so much use can do so little wear and tear. |
Wow thats gonna go for more money than a new one at UE. I wonder if I just pay UE now and have them just ship it when they get some. (could be months). But it really would annoy me to pay more than a new price for a used item.
