Custom Associated 1/16 truggy
I was always interested in the 18th scale RC, but the Mini was too weak, the 18 was just too small for my taste. Then, Kyosho came out with the Half 8 mini-inferno buggy, followed by Losi's Mini LST, and then the Half 8 ST mini truggy. But these are still too weak for the stuff I do and they don't run 540 size motors. I had an extra TC3 laying around that I wasn't using and made my own 1/16 scale truggy.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...T/DSC04518.jpg Slightly larger than the RC18, more agile, beefier, and runs a 540 so I have much more motor options. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...T/DSC04523.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...T/DSC04524.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...T/DSC04526.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...T/DSC04529.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...T/DSC04530.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...T/DSC04536.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...T/DSC04541.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...T/DSC04543.jpg The best part was, this was a fairly inexpensive project. All I had to buy was a TC4 FT motor plate, a Proline crowd pleazer body, Proline speed 10 wheels, duratrax vendetta wing, duratrax mini quake tires and a few other things. |
Cool thing Camel!
looks like tons of fun to drive with! |
Awesome dude!!!!! I might just hack up my TC4 into something like this. Great job!

No video.
I like the looks of it. How does it handle? |
Speed? How many cells? Nice project Camel, I like it. Looks like fun.
|
Thanks for the comments!
It goes about 25 with the 19t on 6 cells and handles like a perfectly tuned touring car, except it will turn a lot faster due to the shorter WB. I have room for 12 or more cells and an Mtroniks Genesis truck controller laying around. Hmmm... |
Camelrc,
Can you get a good picture of how you're mounting the cells? I'm curious to see how it's set up. How do those 2/3 A cells hold up to a 19T 540 motor? Do they heat up quite a bit? My plan would be to use my old SS5800 setup with a 2s 3200 lipo. You may have inspired my next project :003: I've been wondering what to do with that old TC3. |
Very cool! Looks like alot of fun.
Nice work, Camel, I like it. Yes, Lipos would be awesome, and maybe even a BL, for extra efficiency and insane runtimes. May I ask what tires and wheels are on Dabids RC18? It's a nice RC, too. DAF |
The tyres are HPI pirelli rally tyres,i think the wheels are HPI too,1/10 touring car.
Great idea with the mini quake tyres, did you have to cut them? anyone know of any other truck tyres that'll fit TC wheels? |
If you don’t mind me asking, what did you use for a center dogbone?
Thanks:018: |
Wow so many eager questions!
Batfish: Just using good ol' velcro on a sealed LRP 1200 pack Gustav: The mini quake tires are 37mm wide mounted on 26mm wheels and have ID of 47mm when the Proline speed 10's have an OD of 38mm, so no cutting was involved and when they're stretched over the TC wheels, they look strikingly similar to bow tie 40's mounted on wabash 40's. CG: That's a T3 dogbone connecting the two diffs, but a MT2 would be better for a longer WB. |
