Strobe Meltdown
 

After a short 5min Blast in the beach sand, Proline paddle in rear only, The strobe pads melted beyond reconition. Truck weighs at least 12.5lbs running Apachee 5s2p. Fun while it lasted. Big rooster. Any Ideas on on how to prevent this.?

I think maybe I just cranked the slipper to tight. Is looser better?. Then the nut flies off. Tight works ok on pavement.
What is the best way to avoid this?
The monster store is closed and I have only one spare set left. I have worn out pads but never just a meltdown. Any ideas hoe to prevent this.

I dont know what to say, when its tight it shouldnt loosen at all, and since the strobe pads allow a little slip it could have slipped too much and burnt. I dont think making it looser will help. Id maybe try modding a gear cover to fit or just run in a less sandy area.

I actually did have the original emaxx gear cover modded w spacers & electrical tape to prevent sand from getting in. Maybe it kept the temp way up. This was soft sand & Was climbing some dunes. Sure looked cool.

And crank that beyotch down - you prob got her hot and melted her..

Put some thread locker on the nut so it won't back off.

Make sure the oil or greas from gearing is not getting on the pads.
Check the pegs on the slipper plates to make sure the sliper part is not slipping on the black part. You may want to try a stiffer spring from a mgt if you have a hobby store handy.

First gear is easier on the slipper than second to.

I was using first gear. next time I will just crank it.
Disaster!!! By mistake I connected reverse polarity to my 12020. It smoked does not work now
Disaster , so stupid. The warrenty clearly states not covered if you do that. However can it be fixed w/ mike.? No sand dune runs today. The monster store is out of stock too as well as closed.
The 12020 worked perfectly w my set up 8xl 5s2p apachee 3700ea so I thinking same set up is best but what about Quark125. Anybody use this?

Yea, I would go for the Quark 125. I think its far superior.

That reverse polarity will get ya everytime - That stinks - i dont know if there is anything that mike can do for ya - I would imagine they can tell if it was plugged in backwards.... Expensive mistake - but im sure that others have done it - and i am also sure that you will not make that mistake again. Good luck - and the quark 125 has had nothing but good reviews.

Yeah, that does suck. Technically though, there really is no need for that to happen. FETs generally simply do not conduct if wired backwards, but they don't blow, so those are more or less safe. The parts that blow are probably the electrolytic capacitors and the controller circuits. The caps are really easy to replace as long as they aren't surface mounted. The controller circuits could easily be protected by a simple diode, especially since those circuits aren't high current. IMO, it's simply bad engineering for the most part...
