E-crt

Hello,

Finished it today! Learned a hard lesson about hardned spurs so upgrades are already in order. I'll be hitting the track with it tomorrow. I'll post something after I see how it performs. The "road" test was very exciting.

killer! lipo or nimh? how many cells?

crazyjr 07.15.2006 01:01 PM

Looks like a lipo setup to me, maybe...4s 3700? Very nice truck MacII, looks like you got a lot of room on there

cemetery gates 07.15.2006 01:18 PM

looks cool, fine design help you out with that setup?

Gustav 07.15.2006 01:26 PM

Looks very neat and tidy,nice!

jameschatz 07.15.2006 02:44 PM

Looks good, did u cable tie the motor in there?

ALso get the chassis braces if you plan on doing fairly hard bashing ;)

Thanks guys....

I'm running FMA Scorpions...two of them...making it 4s. They are only 3200's.

Fine Design inspired me to undertake the project. I bought the motor mount and battery brace from them. The layout is my own idea to balance the weight a bit. I was a bit nervous when I took a dremmel to my brand new CRT but I really think cutting up that radio tray opens up a world of layout options. It does get a bit more rats nesty when the LiPo's are in there but overall I think it's a clean layout. The UBEC is mounted on a little shelf I made out of an old wing...since the picture I added another piece of the wing under the rear driveshaft to hold down the motor wires. I doubt they can/would move but this way it's extra protection. I've also switched to a Fine Design Clutch Bell conversion until I can order some of those hardened pinions from Mike. The spur ate a standard pinion in one run.

I'm really itching to take it out...tomorrow AM...I can't wait. Of course with two more weeks on our points series I hope I can adjust to the changes quickly. Something tells me this truck will be everything my E-LSP was and then some...

I'll report in after the race tomorrow.

Hardened steel pinions and hardened steel spur gears aren't such a great idea i don't think, it didnt work for me, it was eating my pinion too.

Electric Dave 07.15.2006 04:20 PM

So what did you do?

Edit - actually, if Hardened Pinions and Spurs are not a good idea, how do Nitro trucks work? I mean, that's what they are using right?

Anyone out there using RC-Monster Hardened Pinions mated to a Nitro Steel Spur and having a problem with pinions getting damaged?

Darren 07.15.2006 04:56 PM

Yeah Mac, me :) .

I got a kyosho 46t spur gear from Mike (It's plastic)

I dunno how nitro gets away with it actually.

cemetery gates 07.15.2006 05:27 PM

For a 4s lipo what motor and controller are you running?

coolhandcountry 07.15.2006 07:07 PM

Nitro don't have the same umph as electric.
That is why it holds up better.

BTW
Nice conversion.

Mike.L 07.15.2006 09:56 PM

that chassis has a lot of room theres space between everything, looks pritty balenced out to me.

I have a Schulze 18.97 and the motor is an XLT-1 from Fine Design, similar to an 8XL.

Yeah...I guess the whole clutch thing takes some of the brunt off for Nitro...

Have you run the hardened pinions with a steel spur? How long do they last together under race conditions?

I suppose my next question is, for years I've been running brushless with a plastic spur. On my E-Maxx, I LOCKED the slipper and on my E-LSP there was no slipper, how did that plastic spur handle it when two metal gears can't? I don't know if I can use a plastic spur, the CRT spur is the center diff cap...hope those pinions will hold up...
