7xl on 14 cells too little? (torque wise)

is a 7xl on 14 cells too little (in terms of torque) for an e maxx? and what controller would i need for a 7xl if it isnt too little?
Thanks!

I ran mine on 14, was good fun, really enjoyed it, just when I went to 16, then 18, I never wanted to go back. :005:

I'm thinking of getting a 6XL and running 14cells. So the packs are more universal across the other cars I use.

A 7720 would run the XL and 14cells fine, I use the 9920 myself.

It is a good motor on 14 cells. I would get a 9920 unless you going to keep gearing down.

thanks nick and coolhand.
nick- do you mean 7020? as i cant find a 7720 on rc-monster and ive got a 7020 already so i'd have a cheap setup (which would be nice, im cheap lol)
h yeah what gearing would you reccomend for the maxx? as ive found a nice one, which im going to run 14 cells on the stock motors till they go pop, and upgrade along the way.

If you going to run the 70 20 I would go or try a 15 66. On 14 cells it be torque but should be ok on heat on esc. Keep an eye on temps.

i wu=ill keep an eye on temps. also, i caould only get a 51t spur, as thats the ofna one that everyone uses so what gearing should i use then? should i run a 20 tooth pinion or is that too much (i dont know how to work gear ratios out lol)
Thanks!

20T would be quite warm...i would start 12/51 would be close to 15/66,and work your way up. I run a 9920/10xl on 16 cells geared 18/51 and stays good...but that's in a maxx.

Nick 07.27.2006 03:10 PM

I ran 20/66 without strobe... stock gearing. On 14 cells no heat problems at all! :)

Yes, I did mean the 7020.

neweuser 07.27.2006 03:11 PM

With what diffs?

neweuser 07.27.2006 03:29 PM

I think your gonna run hot with that, what diffs are you running? But then again, i have never ran stock with BL LOL, let me know how it goes....I thought you had a strobe for some reason... :)

Get some Great Assembly 7075 Diff cases. I'm using some till I get my 8-spiders and VBS. Shim the diffs properly and get those cases and you should be ok. FLM diff upgrade is good also. For 14 cells I would suggest an 8XL if you haven't bought yet. You will get longer runtimes and on 14 cells the 7XL revs to 40,017 if my memory serves me well. So it may get hot?

sounds good as i want longer runtimes and for it to go easier on the diffs.
