Converting a Savage

In a moment of insanity I decided to purchase a Savage to have a go at converting to brushless. Only minor problem is I haven't really got a clue how to do it. Are there any pre-made motor mounts I could purchase to use, or will I have to crack the dremel and drill press out?

I've had a look at a couple on here (Serum, very nice trucks you have!), and it looked like I can stay with the stock transmission? Will it be okay with a 9XL and 14 cells? The Savage I brought is a Savage 25, with thw two speed auto, I think. Will I need to stick with manual brakes, or can I use the motor as the brake?

Any advice or help anyone could offer me would be greatly appreciated. I love the look of a savage, and how they drive. But don't have a clue about them really.

Thanks.

if you keep the two speed you will have to use the mechincal brake.
If you want reverse you need the reverse modul in the trans.

I'll leave the mechanical brakes in there if they don't get in the way of everything. Reverse I'm not particually fussed about.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Seems somewhat expensive for what it is, and the motor sits quite high up..

I got mike to make me a motor mount. I designed it and he cut it. If you don't keep the brakes you need a single speed. The 3 speed trans is strong enough to hold up to a 2250 on 6s limn. I broke the reverse modul though. The lower motor mounts I have seen is dabids and renes.

The 3 speed sounds pretty strong :) I'll stick with the two speed for the min, it looks like it should withstand the power I'll be putting on it.

Do you have any pics of your mount? How much did it cost to have Mike make one for you?

Also do you happen to know where I can find a list of the drive ratio's for the different gearbox's? I don't have a clue what size pinion I will need. I only have 18t and 20t mod1 pinions.

it is a 5.39 diff and trans on 2 speed. 4.85 diff and trans on 3 speed. The diff is 3.31. I hope that helps. There is a pic of mine around here. I still have the motor mount just no savage if you going 22 series.

Okay thats help a bit, thanks :)

What made you decide to scrap your Savage? I guess a 22 series motor plate won't work with a regular Feigao XL?

No, the 22 serie has got a larger hole distance.

I like the low cg motormount the best, so far.

I really don't know exactly. I think the biggest thing was. I have to many rcs.
The three speed is a pita to adjust. I think the 2 speed is more user friendly. If you go with alot of power. I would suggest the x slipper unit. It is much stronger than stock.

To maintain battery compatibility with my other cars, I'll likely be sticking to 7 cell packs with my 9XL. So shouldn't need too many drivetrain upgrades?

Any chance my Emaxx strobe will fit on? I don't really need it on my Emaxx, and its almost new.

What sort of pinion do you think I'll need on 12-14 cells? My plan is to leave the car as stock as possible, from what I've read and seen its very durable for bashing and jumping as stock?
