First Run With The 9L

This thing is definitely what I've been looking for. I've got the strobe slipper on it with the 51 turn ofna spur and a 15 turn pinion and this thing still has torque for days. I can't wait for Jamie to get the 12-14 turn pinions in. Thanks Mike for answering my questions on Easter morning! What temps are you guys getting on this motor after a 14 cell run, my temp gauge is showing right around 145 degrees on the motor after several high speed runs, sound about right?

yup thats a good temp, good u got things working:)

I should have the mod 1 pinions in pretty soon as well. 145 degrees is fine for the motor.

LOL I so wish I knew about gearing. Thats one thing i've yet to experiment with since I started this hobby. Everyone keep saying if I get the right type of gearing with the 9L i could fry the motor or controller and that scares me lol.

Qball, glad to hear you're pleased with your 9L, I'm currently awaiting the 10L/9918 combo. I'm also going to be using the OFNA 51T mod 1 + 15T pinion setup, are you using the standard plastic spur, nylon or the steel one? I've ordered 3 plastic spurs but am a bit worried that the motor might tear them up.

I'm currently running the plastic spur, I've only got 5-6 runs on it but it seems to be holding up just fine. It's alot thicker than your standard spur gear.

With the proper gear mesh, the plastic spurs hold up fine. Even 32 pitch is tough enough. I have run a plastic spur gear for over a year without stripping it.

I like plastic over steel spurs. When I used to have the hardened steel spur gear, I'd have to buy new pinion gears every 5th or 6th run!!!!!

I'll be sticking with the plastic! thanks.
