alu-idler for rusty ?

Hi !

I have a rustler xl-5 with a mambamax 5700 motor in it. and i have a question for you huy's ! :027: Can i run it with the stock transmission gears for a wile or will the strip on the first batterypack with amambamax on 6cells ?
I,ve upgraded the diff outputs to steel one's and put rpm wheelcarriers front/back. I also have a alu-idle gear for it but i have not installed it yet becasuse ,ve tried to do it but some part of it bind,s when it is in a certen posission:019: . So can i run with en plastick one for a wile ?

You will absolutely strip it. I stripped mine with a novak ss5800 1st pack, so...yeah. Easier to do it first then do don't have to spend a bunch of time digging out shredded plastic bits.

As far as the binding goes, you may want to double check the spur/ pinion mesh. I've noticed that sometimes the spur wobbles a bit bc its not quite even and the mesh will change as bit from one side of the spur to the other, casuing the pinion to be too tight into the spur. At least this has tripped me up in the past.

G/l, should be lots of fun

i ran mine for several packs with the xl5 combo and then swapped over to a feigao 6s i had and didnt strip it, but went ahead and replaced it while i was in there.

I stripped mine many many times... you need all aluminum..

Idler gear replacement?

Guys,
I have the same Idler gear question for the E-Maxx. I have a Feigao 9L motor, Quark 80B controller, and I run 14.8v (two 7.4V Lipo batteries). I'm being careful with it for now because I don't want to break anything. Four questions:

1) What are the first symptoms that the idler gear is getting ready to break?

2) I'm starting to hear a momentary click somewhere in the drivetrain when the drag brake kicks in when I let off the throttle... Is that likely to be the idler gear?

3) I looked for a metal idler gear a week or so ago online and I could not find anyone who had them in stock. Anybody know where I can get one for an E-Maxx?

4) Are there any other gears in the transmission that need to be replaced?

my stock e-maxx tranny did pretty good until I started using 18+ cells.... I think the tranny's not too bad.. especially if you're using lipo ... you're already saving a lot of weight...

I ran an old stampede with a stock idler with a 10 turn for a race season with no problems. the trick is not to land with the throttle pegged

Old Soldier, Mike sells the steel idlers, however I'm not sure if there in stock currently.
