Specs on Novak motors/ use with other sensorless esc
 

Does anybody have any specs on the Novak 1/10 motors? I have a (now unused) ss5800 I thought I would try on a sensorless esc for fun w/ more cells.

From what I've read, these are actually pretty good motors, just the escs are limited. Obviously the ss5800 is a 5800 kv (I assume unloaded.) But does any know rpm limits, amp draw, etc. What about the other motors, like the 5.5, 4.5 etc. If the 8.5 is 5800, the others must be quite high. I would assume a 65K rpm limit if they have 3.5s on 6 cells running that fast.

Anyone else try this, I heard CC was going to make the software compatible w/ novaks. a 5800 on 8cells/ 3s lipo might be quite fun and comparable to the CC 5400 maybe...

I don't know about the smaller ones. The hv maxx didn't work will with out the sensor. The motor is like a 380 motor in side.

What esc did you try? Is the real difference in sensorless vs sensor really in the esc programming? I know the sensored motor obviously has a sensor, but aside form that are they the same to sensorless motors?

Personally, I don't think highly on Novak...IMO, you'd be better off spending 90.00 on a wanderer, hooking it to 10s lipo, and let her rip unitl you see smoke! But that's just me, i don't think Novak is worth the time!

The sensored changes timing as rpm change. I not sure if the novak motors
may not have a good feed back to esc. I tried a schulze 18.97 kwf. If I got the take off decent the top end sucked. If top end was good the take off was so coggy. Maybe less feed back to esc for the sensor does that.

I agree with you Neweuser... I use to own these novaks, and didn't really like them much....

I ran my ss5800 on my mgm 120 and it was almost as smooth as my feigaos. Not only that, but it ran cooler than with the super sport. I think the novak motors are more efficient than the feigao/wander motors. The novak can be geared so that it doesn't heat up at all. The feigao's (I've owned 3) can't.

Finnster, novak's site has the kv's listed for the velociti motors.

Thanks guys, thaty was the tech info I was looking for. I still have this motor around and was thinking about experimenting with it. I must have missed that info on Novak's site, I'll look again.

The 5800 is rated as 5000kv (under load I guess?) while the 3.5 is listed as 10500 kv! It puts out 490W rated, so it must be drawing around 70A. 540 cans supposedly. That also puts the 3.5R at 75,000 rpm @ 7.2V holy.... I bet you could easily run the 8.5 on 3s. If CC does update the software it would be a fun little experiment. It does say the 8.5 does have smaller bearings tho than te velocities, so the 7.5 may be a better canidate (5800 kv).

Those are unloaded values. The ss5800's 5000 kv unloaded sounds about right.
