Best Material for OFNA 51T Spur

I'm planning on running a 10L/9918 on 16 cells using a 15T Mod 1 pinion and an OFNA 51T Spur. Has anyone got any thoughts on what spur material works best..stock plastic, delrin or steel.

I've ordered 3 plastic spurs to start with as I was a bit concerned they would'nt last long.

The stock plastic mod1 spurs will last for a very long time if you have decent gear mesh. I wouldn't use a metal spur (too heavy and it tends to wear out pinions pretty quickly). The plastic or delrin are the best options in my opinion.

Great, I'll stick with the plastic.

hey mike, any idea on when you will have some mod 1 pinions? i im thinking about a strobe slipper. what slipper do you use? can i buy that through you??

I Should have the mod1 pinions any day now. I will also have 5mm bore 32 pitch pimions soon(I am having some made). I do not yet carry the strobe slipper, but I am working on it.

mike, which slipper do you use?

I use a robinson on two trucks, a kippster on another truck and a stock slipper on another truck. The kippster is the best of these, but I don't think they available anymore.

do you think i should stay stock? i complete tighten mine down so there is absolutly no slippage. is this bad to do? i have done it for almost a year now. does it handle better when you have some slippage? i know your gonna say it puts stress on stuff, but i got a bulletproof drivetrain anyway.

The kippster allows you to tune some slippage, which makes it much easier to drive on a tight track. The stock one holds up fine when it is cranked down. The robinson is somewhat inconsistant, but works slightly better than stock for tuning (it really can't handle the power of brushless). The Strobe is almost identical to the kippster, but uses mod1 gears. If you can get a strobe or kippster, I recommend it.

I tried to get more kippster slippers but they are out of business I believe. I have tried to contact Gary from kippster and asked hobby shops that do business with him but no avail so I gave up.

Same here! A shame, though, because the slipper is great.

Yup I agree, I am using it right now for 32 pitch until I get my Module 1s.

Here is my version which is practically similar.
I am hoping to get an one piece version (one spur gear) instead of two (center and an outer spur).

I just spoke with strobe and should have some Strobe slippers in stock soon. Chase, is that slipper your design?

Chase023 04.01.2005 01:17 AM

Nope.. ideas were taken from kippster and redesigned with a different center. As you can see the one on the left is the original Kippster design and the right one is a new one.
