Dual brushless question
 

Hi guys,

I am thinking about mounting a dual brushless setup for a truck (e-revo, e-maxx). :030:


Which will work better in torque, top speed, autonomy, durability, thermal problems .... ?

A) Two Feigao 540 6S (5070KV) with 2 ESC and 7 or 8 cells each (total 14 or 16 cells)

OR

B) One Feigao 540 7XL (2382KV) with 1 ESC and 14 or 16 cells

7XL....The 6S's will offer horrible runtime for one...

You really wont be happy with dual brushless setups. Nowadays, you can do over 60mph easily in a heavy, full aluminum truck with a big and powerful motor such as the XLs or the Lehners 1940s or 1950s.

I agree. Not to mention the amount of drain on your batteries! Any BL system is only as good as your batteries after all. I suppose you could have dual battery systems...

You also may have trouble getting both motors to spin at exactly the same speed. Sure, you'll have more power than one, but I think you'll have less power than both of them together should have because of this.

Then, you may have trouble with your drivetrain. One motor can stress components with its serious torque; two would be brutal.

It would be a neat project. JOHNNYMAXXIMA has done it, maybe he will chime in and offer his views...

Yes, single BL is the way to go. Unless you are going to be doing tractor pulls with it (massive torque with dual BL), then I would go single.
I went dual on my E-Maxx more for the "WOW" factor than anything. I also have a single BL E-Maxx as well.
As far as speed goes, the dually was faster. If I remember correctly, I got 44mph out of the single 9L Maxx on 14 cells and 51mph out of the dual 9L Maxx and 28cells. I have since swithced the 9L's for 2 7XL's and got rid of the 28 cells for two 5s LiPo packs.

Bottom line is that for half the price (not to mention the weight difference, my dual weighs over 3lbs. more) single can get pretty close to a dual setup for speed if geared propperly.

With this info I sure will go to a single brushless setup.
