Brushless MT2 with Mamba and A123 cells

My MT2 is just about ready to run, so I though I'd post a few pictures before I take it outside and thrash it. It's currently packing all aluminum GPM components, Mayhem 1/8 shocks, Spektrum DX3 radio, a Mamba Max 4600 brushless system with Mod1 gears, and a pair of 9.9v, 2300mah A123 Lithium batteries.

I'm still waiting for the "Hypersonic Turbo" voltage boost module to arrive, it's backordered at A123. Once it gets here, I plan to run the truck at 14v with the Mamba BEC disabled, and I have a small external BEC to mount that I got from RC-Monster. With the center driveline of the MT2, the saddle pack configuration was the best solution I could find to keep the CG low and the voltage high.

Great work, thats a sweet looking truck. Should be fast too.

I'm interested in seeing how your set up works. I have a Ofna Pirate 10 that I'm going to convert, and it should be about the same weight/config as yours ended up.

Good job! I hardly recognize the truck! It looks like you cleaned up the motor mount and replaced just about every part on the truck. Will you be able to get a gps or radar speed reading on it? You shouldn't have any problem topping 60 mph.

Very nicely done! I was very close to going with this same vehicle, but ended up converting a Hot Bodies Lightning Stadium 10. I used the Mamba Max 5700 and a couple 3200 mah lipos. The thing is insane and I love it!!

Thanks all!

cart213, in hindsight, I probably should have just bought a set of differentials, shocks, and driveshafts off ebay instead of buying your complete truck and stripping it down. Oh well, I'm happy with the way it turned out, and I still have enough parts to build another truck.

I have a hand held GPS that I'll attach to the truck once I get the turbo boost module.

Let us know about the turbo unit, sounds neat. Very nice truck man, very nice. Another clean looking project!

u can wire deans like that to use two battery packs? i thought u had to do it differently?

aqwut 09.22.2006 08:47 PM

Very nice job dude... I can't wait to see how the lithium ion packs work.... full charge in 15 minutes is awesome....

Serum 09.23.2006 03:19 AM

What is the weight of this bundle of joy?

aqwut 09.23.2006 06:36 AM

those A123 Packs looks really cool.. but their website doesn't make any sense to me... you figure a 2300mAh pack can discharge at 69A continuous.. but a 4600mAh pack can discharge only 69A ...... You'd think it can do twice the discharge rate....

If I am not mistaken, he has them in parallel, so thats actually 138A. Notice there are 2 packs of 3 cells? If they were in series, that would be 6S.

wow...those batteries seem to pack a punch.....
