batteries or brushless

i need 2 know if i should buy 4 ib 4200 and a mrc 977 or a brushless setup right now i have epic 3000 and radioshack charger wat do u all think:032:

coolhandcountry 09.15.2006 06:04 PM

The ib 4200 would make an improvement. I like lipo more right off though.

Go with the batteries to start. Without good batteries, a bushless system will not run that well anyway. Good batteries are base of any good brushless setup.

I wouldn't get a 977...

Ditto... the 4200s sound like a good idea, but check out some other chargers.

Maybe I just don't like MRC chargers, but they have really had some duds so I would never buy one. Especially ever since they that one (907 maybe?) as "lipo charger" that was NOT designed to properly charge them, adn was even dangerous to use... bad taste in the mouth. :020:

Lots of chargers to choose from.....

I think you might be thinking of the 977...It was originally called the 969 and then they changed the name and a little software and called it a 977. The 959's were good little chargers, but no screen, etc...The 989 is a VERY nice charger. Kinda pricey though...

neweuser 09.16.2006 01:06 AM

IMO, i would stay far away from the 977!!! i had nothing but problems with that charger unless i charged at a very low amp, like 3amps, or it did well with my rx packs. You could go with a triton, or duratrax charger. As for batts, you could go with gp3300's. they are suppose to pack a good punch. IB3800's are also good. IB4200's? Not sure, people say different things about them. I loved my IB3800's though, i still run two 7cells that i have had for a long time with no issues what so ever! Otherwise, go lipo right from the start!

I keep reading that those 4200's may shorten and there is no warranty on them. (that's not really advertisement, right?)

BADBOY2 09.16.2006 02:41 AM

if u go with lipos what does it really improve?just the run time?and are they really hard to maintain ?they said u need to watch them while charging..im thinkin about the a123 batts but the highest cells they have is 4200s 2s2p.with that power u think it can handle a savage?or im gonna need to run 2 of them ?ive read that the a123 batts are easy to charge no need to watch them while charging..so now im thinkin of getting into lipo also..but id like to know more about it too .

You can always do a search on this forum to find out more about lipos.

If you balance both packs while charging, it should prevent that making it safe to charge both in series.
