New Member (Have a few questions)
 

Hey guys I am new to this forum and I so far enjoy it. I have been in to rc for about six years now. I hade a T-Maxx (sold it to complicated I was only nine when I bought it) I have an all aluminum Mini-T, a stock E-Maxx, and an almost all graphite RTR XXX-T. I have decided to convert my stock E-Maxx to a Brushless Gorillamaxx. I have already started collecting parts; so far I have Integy MSRP5 Piggyback shocks and 1/8-scale punisher turnbuckles. Since I do not have a job I only collect money from my upcoming birthday, Christmas, and mowing grass. So out off all of that I have about a budget of $800 Bucks. I thought the Novak 4.5 brushless E-Maxx motor would be good for my maxx. Please give me you opinions of what I should buy first for my E-Maxx project. The budget is for starting eventually I will expand it. Thanks for your opinions.

The 4.5 will be a good system if you want ease of setup and use. It's not the most powerful, its more like 2nd least powerful, but its the most reliable and the smoothest. I run a 6.5, I will get a 4.5 soon.

I would actually suggest you get rid of the integy shocks and get pro-line powerstroke shocks instead...the integy one's are known to leak like a siv.

If you have an 800 dollar budget on top of your brushless sytem, I would suggest you convert to a G2R... Its a heck of alot better than an E because it doesnt require you to upgrade 1/2 its parts for it to be durable and reliable.

What I would do is get the Powerstrokes, a G2 chassis, FLM Hybrid Bulkheads, HB diffs, and some CVD's. After that, your pretty much set for brushless. DON'T get the Novak! You WILL regret it. It isn't fast at all. A Feigao/Quark setup will be ALOT better.

Its not that the Novak isnt fast...its just that every other brushless system is faster lol

I would drop the integy shocks as well.

You will keep bending shafts.. They are not funny at all.

If you want to go 12-14 cells (which i presume, considering the choice of novak) you are better of getting a mamba-maxx controller (which can be used on 14 cells without a problem) this is a nice controller, with a USB programming option, and by far the best company behind it in terms of service.

Use a wanderer XL motor, and you have got a 210 dollar setup which is as smooth as the novak, but stronger. The cogging of a sensored setup is hardly noticable.

You made a good choice on the turnbuckles. Those are beefy!

Too bad the proline powerstrokes are obselete..

If you do take Serum's advise the esc might not be under warranty. In the book its only supposed to run on 12 cells or 3s lipo, but people have proved it can run more cells and bigger motors so they may change that.

Well, the rating gaurantees what every ESC would be able to do, but some may handle more. For example, some people run 17 cells on an EVX no problem, but some people fry it with 14 IB4200's.

I have read that the Mamba would be under warranty on 4S LiPo or 14 cells IF you use a UBEC...

Yeah, that's what i heard as well Squee, but i can't find it back anymore..
