Confused about motor range

Hi guys, I think I'm going to have to get someone to explain the range of motors available to me, I have just got really confused trying to work stuff out. I have read a lot of the threads here and spent a fair time researching this, but I cant get it any clearer.

I don't have a large amount to spend, so I presume Feigao is a good brand to go with?

1. What is the difference in the number of winds in the motors?

2. What is the difference between the normal 540 motors, the 540c motors, the 540c XL, etc

3. Why are Lehners so damn expensive?

4. What would be a good motor and controller to go with? I have a savage, roughly stock weight that I want to convert. I dont need it to be blisteringly fast, and I have a medium budget, but I still want it to be able to at least match its current nitro config (~40 mph and wheelies). Is that possible? I already have a 3 speed and lightweight dirtbonz tires if that helps...

Thanks guys ^^

I used a warrior 9918/9L and was getting 40 ish. It still had the speed and wheelie popping power. I feel it could've been faster with diff gearing but was limited with what I had. Good batts are a must.

Hi!

Welcome to the forum

1 the number of winds is just as with normal electric motors. the lower the number of winds, the higher the rpm's per volt (KV) with this comes a higher current-draw/shorter runtime.
2 540 is the size of a motor, which have got a 36mm diameter. The 540C actually is a 380 sized motor, but because of it's heatsink, it's a 540 sized. the S/L/XL are different lengths, with XL being to tallest.
3 Lehners are hand wind, and use segmented magnets. (makes it less hot on a partial load) What you pay is what you get. A lehner is better than a feigao, no way around it. Better built (screwed endbells) better bearings.. Everything is better with a Lehner. Only the price/preformance ratio of the Wanderers/Feigao's is better. The Neu motors are very sweet and sexy, but they are cheaper than the Lehners
4 in your savage, a Quark 125 with a wanderer 8/9XL on 14 cells would be great. I used an 8XL on 16 cells in mine, and i was pleased with it.

Thanks so much guys, that really helps!

Also, do you know of any sites that sell motor mounts for the savage? I know most of you fabricate your own, but I have no access at all to metal working machinery, nor the knowledge to do it. I do remember seeing a site that sold them and it looked perfect, however I cant for the life of me find it now. Or perhaps is there someone on here who makes them on demand?

Thanks again.

With regards to batteries, I might jump up to LiPos straight away, as I already run a LiPo in my rc18t, to great delight :)
