Loctite vs Grinding
 

Hey all,

Just wondering what you guys are doing to secure the pinion gears on your motors. Do you use loctite on the shaft in addition to the grub screw? Is anyone else grinding a small flat on the motor shaft so the grub screw has something to sit on? I ground a small flat on my feigao 7xl, but am hesitant to do so on my neu. :032:

Thanks for clearing that up. I was also using loctite on the setcrew. I just got a little confused because the instructions that came with the neu said to use loctite on the shaft, but that must be for airplane applications.

IMO, if you plan on changing your gearing, I would use blue loctite. I personally never have used loctite on my set screws for the pinion gear.

red loctite can be a real pain in the *ss.. I would still se a flat spot and blue loctite.....

Yup, in fact, I never needed loctite at all! But if you do use some, use blue. definately a flat spot...:027:

Thanks for the confirmation guys. I never use red loctite, at least not on my R/Cs. I only keep the blue stuff handy.

I have not been using flat spots for some time now. Never had any slipping that I know about. No problems what so ever!

It will slip for sure cartwheels. or you need more power..

I have had a pinion slip several times when just using a flat spot....it actually walked it's way to the end of the shaft.....so now I use a flat spot as well as blue loctite on the pinion
