Hi Dale, welcome to the Forum!

As for bulletproof trannies, the only thing you'll need are the steel idlers from this site. Single speed or not is your choice. Even the two-speed tranny is hard to kill once you have the steel idlers.
Another trick is to reinforce the pins that hold the gears on the input shaft. I use a small nail or bodyclip.
These two things, and your tranny should be ready for some serious BL power.
And stay away from the Traxxas lightweight shafts.

Good Luck

you can get the 6061 aluminum gears from rc4wd.com... I know they're not 7075 like the UE ones.... but still better than stock...

Those rc4wd gears are gay..

stay away from 6061 aluminum gears.

The rc-monster idlers are running smoother than the UE's. with brushless you don't really need a 2speed, in fact, i dropped both the 2 speeds and converted them to singlespeed. I have got no experience with the novak, but if you keep your truck light the 1st speed is not absolutely needed. Unless you are planning on crawling.

What ballistic batteries have you got?

Welcome to the forum bytheway, and I love your 23mm adaptors and the maxx shocktowers.

Thanks I will order the Idlers and drop the 2 spd Patrick made me some packs as soon as I get them I will know what they are. Patrick knows what I like so they should be good. The truck is light the batterys way more then it does lol I made my own chassis what spur gear should I run I have the RRP SPUR 65T Metal and 66t plastic Serum thanks for the props we have a sunday night drag racing set-up need to run with the bigger trucks. I have two Kyosho mini's both are brushless 1 is Tekin the other is Castle both are 8kv motors and a lot of fun and nothing can beat them.

Welcome to the forum dale. I agree with what has been said. Do you have
any pics of your maxx? It should be nice.

How heavy will your maxx be?

I'm currently working on a partial titanium maxx, it's turning out rather light (not the lightest around though)

My lightest truck (e-maxx) weights 6.6 lbs rtr. Too light imo.. with a bigger motor and 5S setup it was about 7lbs, and it was hard to keep the front wheels down.. once the winds starts taking controll..

The mini's are great.
I ordered a wraith 7K for my rc18t with a 3S pack, lets see how she goes..

Okay guys got this H.V. MAXX 4.5 They say when you run these combos you need to use this set-up and in bold they say not to use stock e-maxx gearing.
I plan on running 2 6 cell packs 3800 what gears would you all recommend use the t-maxx spur and the steel idelers. They tranny is already single speed any help would be great.

2 6 cell packs

spur ------- Pinion
70-72 ------- 14

or

74-76 ------- 15

2 7 cell packs

70-72 ------- 12

or

74-76 ------- 13

Serum 11.09.2006 02:28 AM

That's right, according to the sheet which can be downloaded from the novak site, correct?

Dace Mfg. 11.09.2006 03:12 AM

Serum can I use the t-maxx RRP 72 slipper buy the 32 pitch pinon from here and the ideler my biggest concern is the 31 tooth plastic gear in the tranny trying to find one in steel as I want it to be bullet proof. I have 2 sets of 3300match pack batteries and have some 4200's that Ballistic will make me a little afraid to run LIPO as with my mini inferno's I ran thunder power 3s pack and fried it what do you think.

aqwut 11.09.2006 06:32 AM

I haven't seen any steel tranny gears yet, except for the idlers... but don't be afraid to go lipo.... the weight you save, will definately help protect your drivetrain.....

coolhandcountry 11.09.2006 09:45 AM

Don't worry about that 31 tooth gear. I have had a 2250 on mine with 26 cells
piled on a chassis. It sheared the peg off on the slipper pressure plate first.

aqwut 11.09.2006 10:07 AM

Leroy, I had a reverse effect of that...when I use to have the plastic gears, it didn't hold up very well.. I've changed them about 3 times... but that could be from the way I'm driving.... I had dual 1940s with 24 cells back then... every since I had the UE 7075 gears.. it held up no problem..... but my truck was very heavy too back then...close to 18LBs.... with all the junk I had on there.... so maybe the plastic will hold up if less than 12Lbs..
