anyone know were i can get blue carbon fiber at lest 4mm thick and 12''x24'' im trying to make a custom buggy chassis for my lx comp convertion

You can type carbon fiber in any popular search engine which will automatically lead you to the place you need.

I dont know a certain place that sells them, though.

There are several grades of CF, bi-directional & quasi- istropic. The quasi-isotropic being the stronger of the two grades listed. Thers may be other grades but these are the two grades i know of. So you know the coloered CF is not pure CF. It has a CF core with colored fiberglass on each side. This is the place were alot of the RC manufacturers get there CF.

Neweuser, is the CF in that link actually fabric? From some of the descriptions, it sounds like it is more like cloth than something solid.

Yes it is a fabric. The woven carbon fiber fabric is impregnated with epoxy then alternating layers are added. Then either it's vacuum bagged or pressed to remove the excess epoxy. The carbon fibers are strong but flexible, the epoxy is stiff but brittle, combine them and you get a cool composite that has the good properties. You can also mix in other fabrics like Kevlar and even some metals. Also depending on the weave style and how they alternate you can alter the properties.

The only company I know off hand that does the colored carbon fiber is Carbon by Design. The stuff they have is very high quality so you will pay for it. Which at first might seem like a problem but dealing in high quality product means that you will have a higher rate of material that doesn't pass grade. If you email them in a professional manner you might be able to get a sheet with an imperfection such as an air bubble.

Ah, so that fabric is for people who want to make their own CF projects then? I guess it would be a good way to make odd-shaped parts without having to bolt together angled pieces and such. Sounds very similar to how fiberglass molds are made (except the vacuum or pressing part).

Right the fabric is for custom applications. It's amazing what shapes you can make. You can make shapes that couldn't be made with any other method. I have a few books on composites and read some of the forums. It's a real art.

Yes it is similar to fiberglass in principle. You don't have to necessarily have to vacuum or press it but it makes it stronger by removing the excess resin.
