TNX to Brushless
 

Hi I would like to know if any one has done a Brushless conversion to Tamiya TNX?

I haven't seen any pics of a brushless converted TNX. It would be really awesome. A TNX is the lightest type of 1/8 truck in the market. A L motor would make it as fast as a rocket due to its light weight.
BTW, Tamiya has released a new TNX with lots of hop ups and they even claim that their truck can do 60+mph easily.
If you can make one Brushless TNX, then you'll be the fastest, but your truck will be subject to many problems and specially the TNX's spur gear. I heard its pretty weak, actually.

I was hopping to make my old TNX in to brushless and get the new 5.2R TNX.
As for the spur gear problem I haven't had any I think most just don't set them right. I have a .26 sportwerks on mine now for about two years and still running the stock spur.

Before TayimaTrucks web site went down for repairs there was a lot of interest on a brushless set.

How much would you like to spend on a brushless setup? A good choice would be a Mamba Max esc and a Neu 1515/1Y motor on 4s lipo, if you've got the funds. A cheaper alternative would be a Mamba Max esc and a Feigao 540 8XL on 14 cells.

If you go with a MambaMax controller( $140), a 1940/8($280) and a 4s lipo($240). That would cost you $660, but it would be a very nice setup and your TNX is quite light, also.

So what is the advantages over Nitro?

The way I see it:

much more power, less maintenance, less noise, and longer runtime compared to a tank of gas.

I'm sure others will add to this list.

Also, in the long run, a brushless system is much more powerful and most importantly cheaper. You also have the option of adding more cells for more power per/need.
You wont find yourself soaken in nitro and your hands are stained with black spots.
You almost cant hear your truck while its passing infront of you at 45mph.
Its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, cleaner and saftyer than nitro.
I could add mor if you want, just ask.

what about motor mounts and the two speed trans?

Brushless motors require less complex motor mounts. Since they have torque throughout the powerband, there's no need for a 2-speed. They just add more gears/weight. Although several members here have used the 2-speed tranny with their brushless Revo conversions.
