Brushless setup for crawling
Hello,
I read your forum for several days. I leave in France so my English is not really perfect ;) My Emaxx is a little bit Gorilla equiped :) and I use it for crawling over rocks and more. I'm not keen on bashing. I want to know if I can use a brushless (9S for example) with standard 12 cells for crawling? My cells are not matched, no problem anymore? The increase of speed is not too important compared to stock setup? Does a 9918 ESC provide a smooth control (like EVX)? Thank you for reading Juju |
Juju,
The 9918 warrior and 9L motor aren't the best set-up for crawling. I will be getting some new motors/controllers in that may be better suited for this duty. I won't know until I get them, though. Matched cells are not as important as the overall quality of the cells (good batteries in an unmatched pack can perform better than a crappy matched set). |
Mike,
Thank you for the answer :) I use 3300HV cells. Charge is made at 3.3A and discharge at 3A. After, I use a cell by cell discharge device (I don't know the exact word in English). To be more precise, in france with realize challenges combining "crawling" area and races on a 1/8 off road track so I want to find a good set up for this use ;) |
I saw a video clip, I think it was in the Netherlands where it was like a technical obstical course. It combined racing, rock climbing, dirt, gravel, over hills, and driving on 2 wires or wood. Looked kinda of hard for me.

Wow, that track/course looks pretty difficult! Fun, too! We call that battery device an equalizer here(or simply a discharge tray). Nimh batteries don't need to discharged often like the Nicads. I never cycle mine actually. That course looks like it definately favors throttle control over speed. I am hoping the new stuff I get in will function well in that type of environment (combination of great low speed throttle control and high speed capability). Time will tell. Great looking maxx, by the way. I love the old Toyota crawlers (real ones).

I cant imagine a course like that - man it looks super complex - that driving on wires is a pretty awesome feat...
|
Hello,
In reality it look harder than it is ;) The bad thing on Emaxx is the miss of mechanical brake like on nitro's MT :( Driving on wire is relatively easy, we need only big tires like BigJoe, speed is really small. |
Hey juju.
What experence do you have with a brushless and trying to run the course? I am courious to your experence. |
cool, you do what i wanna do.
welcome to the forum juju!:027: |
