Strange Noise
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but after I installed my Racer X suspension I took the truck out tonight to play around. When driving slow it doesn't do it, but when I go wot I hear some loud clicking noises at random. For some reason I can't seem to locate it, when I put the truck on the stand and go wide open throttle it doesn't make the noise, the drivetrain spins freely and there's no binding. The gear mesh is correct, I think I'm losing my mind trying to find this noise. Could it possibly be coming from either the diff or the transmission and it's only doing it under a load???

Let me guess, Revo wheels? The Revo wheel hit the knuckles (especially the offset racer x knuckles) under stress, such as hard acceleration. The rim is wide enough to flex into these knuckles. My money(well, no money!) is on the wheels. I noticed this on my e-maxx today.
Nope I'm running Maxx Mashers because I noticed the Revo wheels hit before I ran it.
What wheels?
HPI Q6 rims with Maxx Masher tires for bashing.
Any marks on them?
I'll have to take a look, I'm in for the night I'll check them out tomorrow. Guess I never thought to take a look since everything seemed to roll free when I had it on the stand.
Sounds like wheels to me. you have UE diffs, so I doubt it is them.
No UE diffs yet there on the way, I'll look into it more tomorrow and post the results.
Is that Revo tire issue only on the Racer X offset knuckles?
Racer x and Integy pro 3 have that problem. I don't think it is an issue with regular style knuckles, though.
Well Mike I beleive you were right about the wheels causing the noise. I took them off tonight and on every fin on the inside of the wheel about an inch out from the hex there is a little notch that has been caused by rubbing on something. I probably won't be able to make sure until I go to the track on Sunday (weather permitting) because my remaining two sets are both track tires, but so far your theory seems to make sense. The must just flex ever so slightly as to just hit the fins.
yeah, that is what I figurered. I just happened to notice it on my truck recently, too. I run the revo wheels, but I dremeled them to avoid the rubbing. Over time, the plastic must have fatigued, because they didn't rub for a while, but now they do.
It would be nice if those tires didnt rub. They hold a tire nicely..
Welll, the tires were a very small part of it, but a blown rear diff turns out to be the majority of it. I was running it today and the noise was getting progressively louder and the truck seemed to be slower than normal. I held the rear up and gave it some throttle and it pulled, then I did the same with the front and it didn't move but it did make some really nice cracking noises. I'm glad I ordered the UE diffs last week.
